The City of Malden honors Flag Day. Today is Flag Day, Flag Day commemorates the June 14, 1777 adoption of the United States Flag by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. On May 30, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially established June 14th as Flag Day and on August 3, 1949, President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating every June 14th as National Flag Day.

Learn to Ride a Bike is back! The Great Malden Outdoors has partnered with Bike to the Sea () and the Malden Recreation Department () to offer this $5 learn to ride a bike class at the Linden STEAM Academy in July and August for kids and adults. The class comes with a bike to use for the class, so if or your child don't own one, you'll have use of one for the program. After, please stop by the Bike to the Sea Bike Kitchen to get a free bike to keep while supplies last. Sign-up today at: https://www.thegreatmaldenoutdoors.com/events and thanks to the Adelaide Breed Bayrd Foundation for sponsoring this program for year three.

Reminder from National Grid: Massachusetts law requires gas meters to be replaced every seven years to ensure accurate billing and safe, reliable service.

National Grid has been contacting customers whose meters are overdue for replacement. Residents who have not yet scheduled an appointment are encouraged to do so as soon as possible to avoid a potential interruption of service.

To schedule a gas meter exchange appointment, call 1-800-233-5325 or visit National Grid's website.

Mayor Gary Christenson joined local officials, community members, and the Zonta Club of Malden for the dedication of the "Rooted in Service Garden" at Lincoln Commons.

The garden honors three remarkable Malden women whose lifelong dedication helped shape our community: Susan Thomson, Karen Anderson, and Bailie Weiss.

Planted with beautiful perennials that will bloom year after year, the garden serves as a lasting tribute to their leadership, service, and impact on generations of Malden residents.

Mayor Gary Christenson announced that the City of Malden has been awarded an $852,846 MassDOT Shared Streets and Spaces grant to improve safety and accessibility along Salem Street between Main Street and Broadway.

Planned improvements include new and repainted crosswalks, curb extensions, bus stop and parking markings, and transit signal upgrades to create safer and more efficient travel for pedestrians, drivers, and bus riders.

The project requires no local matching funds and is part of the City's ongoing efforts to invest in transportation infrastructure throughout Malden.

Mayor Gary Christenson is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on Malden’s Public Works Commission.

The three-member Commission oversees matters including curb cut permits, solid waste removal, water and sewer rates, and applications for water and sewer bill abatements.

Applicants should have a background in civil engineering and knowledge of water, sewer, drainage, and roadway services.

Interested residents can apply online at cityofmalden.org/BCApplication. Applications are due by Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
