Hey Malden - remember how the Malden Irish American Club approached approached *US* to be the recipient of this year's Labor Day Road Race Fundraiser???

Well, they're still taking runners and volunteers! You can still support us by:

- running or walk the 5K or (almost) 10K, solo or with a team
- volunteering on race day
- just coming by for raffles, the dunk tank, face painting, food, and drinks

As you know, Amy's Closet is our donation room open for guests every evening in the winter.

This week, PJ from Malden Cares called. He was with a Malden resident he met at the Malden Cares booth at the T station, and would be driving them to a treatment program. This person had nothing to bring with them.

Without hesitating, Paula asked for sizes. She put together a bag of comfortable clothes donated by the community - sleep pants, sweatpants, t-shirts, underwear, and socks.

Small acts like these are meaningful because of the materials themselves, but also because of the care behind them. This person knows they have a community behind them, cheering them on. We're proud to be part of it.

Every now and then, we overhear someone shaking their head and saying, "there must be something in the water in Malden."

It's usually in response to seeing how quick people are to come together and support one another. And here's yet another example: the Irish American Club's road race. Without us even asking, they approached us to be the recipient of this year's Labor Day Road Race Fundraiser.

We are so grateful, and also excited to be at the race with a table.

Well folks, we did it. We exceeded Gerry's fundraiser goal. It was a great birthday present for Gerry, and a gift to every one of our guests as we prepare for the coming season.

As Gerry writes in his note, there is a Warming Center because of you. That couldn't be more true. Seventy people donated, with the most popular dollar amount being $73. Every dollar counted. If that's not community, I don't know what is.

Happy birthday, Gerry. Thank you for celebrating with us, community.

Today is the day!!!! It's Gerry's birthday! For his birthday, he's asking for donations to the MWC: https://givebutter.com/GerryIs73

Our favorite thing about this fundraiser is that he's raised thousands of dollars with most donations being under a hundred dollars. The most popular amount was $73 for his birthday, but others were as small as $10 or $15. Any amount is helpful and makes for a great birthday present for Gerry.

When the Warming Center first opened, we could never have imagined that one day, sending out a single request for donations for something like Gerry's birthday would generate $4,000 just like that.

Well, we sent out that request, and community member after community member clicked the link and donated (the most popular amount was $73, for Gerry's 73rd birthday). In just a few days, we raised $4,000. That means we're 55% of the way to Gerry's goal of $7,300 ahead of the season.

We hope you can help Gerry reach his goal. Donations come easier than they used to, but we also offer so much more than we did when we started. And we're still run by volunteers. We're still small - small enough that every dollar has a genuine impact.
