Nov. 4 is Election Day and I encourage everyone to get out and vote. Ward 8 votes at the Linden STEAM Academy, for all three precincts. While my race is uncontested, and Ward 8 Councillor is also uncontested, the Councillor-at-Large race has six candidates vying for the three spots. You can vote for up to three of the at-large candidates.
I had a great time participating in the recent School Committee Forum, where we were given a minute each for an opening introduction and then a closing. It was good practice, as a minute goes by pretty fast! These are below, as a quick look at some of the things I have been able to work on in my first two terms.
My opening:
I am running for re-election for a third term. I’ve lived in Malden for 35 years and raised three children here who all went through Malden Public Schools. My career has largely been in education and I have over a decade of classroom experience. Currently I work for Melrose Public Schools as an After School Instructor for 1st graders, where I have 27 students. Being on School Committee is a job and it’s a job that I love. During my two terms, I
helped create a District Wide Honors program, I helped plan the updating of the ELC playground to make it age appropriate and accessible, served on two Negotiation teams
and served on the Superintendent Search Subcommittee. I have worked on updating policies, including looking at how we will address the role of AI in our schools.
My favorite part of this job though will always be getting to work with parents and caregivers when they have an issue and I can help them reach a solution. I am asking again for your support as I run for my third term.
Closing:
Thank you to everyone who put this event together and to everyone watching.
I am dedicated to my work on the School Committee and I look forward to continuing my work for a third term. When I ran the first time, I thought of a Linden Principal who told me she wanted her legacy to be that she always put the student first, over everything,
when she made her decisions. I had come to her with a difficult school situation and started to cry when she told me give her three days and it would be taken care of. She asked why I was crying and I explained I had no idea which way the discussion would
go, and all I wanted was for my son to get what he needed. Her words helped my heart that day and I still use them to guide me on the School Committee. Our job, my job, is to
do our best for all students, and all students means just that. I remain committed to listening, doing my research, asking questions, working as a team, finding answers and working on solutions. This is an amazing privilege to get to do this and I do not take for granted the trust and support I have been given by the voters in Ward 8. I humbly ask for your continued support and for your vote this November. Thank you.
I encourage everyone to get out and vote! See you at the polls!
