Pike County Sheriff’s Office Partners with Felder’s Church and Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to Enhance Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events

Part II

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with Felder’s Church and the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to provide training on civilian response to active shooter events throughout Pike County.

A special thank you is extended to Jim Brinson, Director/Advisor of the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, for conducting an outstanding training session focused on preparing civilians to respond effectively during active shooter incidents.

The Sheriff’s Office also expresses its gratitude to Felder’s Church Pastor Abram Atchison, the congregation, and Mrs. Tara Dupree for their dedication, support, and commitment to the citizens of Pike County. Many thanks to the Women of Felder Church for the Amazing Breakfast and Lunch provided.

Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating:

“When I took this office, I made a promise to the citizens of Pike County that I would do everything in my power to keep them safe. This training is a part of that promise.”

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside community partners to ensure that Pike County Citizens have the resources, knowledge, and support necessary to maintain safe and secure environments for all.

Pike County Sheriff’s Office Partners with Felder’s Church and Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to Enhance Safety and Security Planning for Places of Worship

Part I

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with Felder’s Church and the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security to provide safety and security planning training for churches and community members throughout Pike County.

A special thank you goes to Jim Brinson for conducting an outstanding training session focused on helping faith-based organizations strengthen their preparedness and security measures. Mr. Brinson is the Director/Advisor of the Mississippi Homeland Security.

A special thanks to Felder’s Church Pastor Abram Atchison, the Congregation, and Mrs. Tara Dupree for their love and commitment to Pike County.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office proudly partnered with Summit Express Pharmacy, Southwest Mississippi Children’s Advocacy Center, Crisis Pregnancy Center of Southwest Mississippi, K106, and PALS Rescue to host National Naloxone Awareness Day 2026.

Today, we worked together to ensure that the residents of Pike County have access to naloxone, the knowledge needed to use it, and the compassion to support one another in addressing the opioid crisis.

“We want to make sure that the citizens of Pike County know that we are working diligently to raise awareness of this crisis. I am proud to be able to partner with these amazing organizations.”

Through education, awareness, and community partnerships, we remain committed to helping save lives and supporting those affected by substance use disorders. Together, we can make a difference in Pike County.

We are especially grateful to the citizens who took the time to attend this event and receive free naloxone kits. Your participation helps strengthen our community’s response to the opioid crisis and increases the potential to save lives when every second counts.

Thank you to all of our community partners, volunteers, and residents who helped make this event a success. Together, we are building a safer, healthier Pike County.
