Magna City Government Welcome to the official page for Magna, UT

Cover photo by Scott Taylor It began as a small settlement in the mid 1800's called Pleasant Green.

Magna Utah is a township of Salt Lake County with a population of approximately 28,000 people. Mining activity came to the scene at the turn of the century and once the foundations of a modern town were laid, the name was changed to Magna in 1906. Historic Magna Main Street has served as the heart of the community and a commercial center for decades, and the local economy fluctuated along with the

fortunes of the copper mine. Magna is home to major employers Rio Tinto and ATK. Between the copper and rockets that workers at these companies produce, Magna's efforts can be seen all over the world and even in space. Several films and television shows have filmed in Magna, from Disney movies and episodes of Touched by an Angel, to a Stephen King miniseries. With the township boundaries lies a portion of the Great Salt Lake and the historic Saltaire concert hall. Magna is best represented by the hard working and down to earth people that reside here. This page is a place for Magna residents, visitors, and others to connect. Magna City Social Media User Agreement

The discharge of fireworks is prohibited in those areas of the City depicted in the map below. Ordinance #2026-08.

As Utah’s summer holiday season approaches, Unified Fire Authority reminds residents that “Safety Doesn’t Take a Vacation.” Fireworks are a cherished tradition during Independence Day and Pioneer Day celebrations, but Utah’s hot, dry conditions can quickly turn fireworks into dangerous fires.

Most fireworks-related fires are preventable and are often caused by improper use, dry vegetation, or windy conditions. Residents are encouraged to check the 2026 Interactive Fireworks Restrictions Map before using fireworks to determine whether restrictions are in place in their area.

Under Utah law, fireworks may be discharged July 2–5 and July 22–25 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with extended hours until midnight on July 4 and July 24.

Unified Fire Authority also encourages residents to:
• Keep a charged garden hose or bucket of water nearby
• Use fireworks only on flat, hard surfaces away from dry grass and structures
• Closely supervise children around fireworks
• Avoid using fireworks during windy or extremely dry conditions

By following fireworks restrictions and practicing safe discharge habits, residents can help reduce wildfire risk and ensure a safe holiday season for everyone.
