The Madrid Fire Department is an all volunteer Fire Department, located northwest of Des Moines in central Iowa, which has been in continuous operation since 1900. We provide Fire and EMS service to our citizens, businesses, neighbors, and visitors over a coverage area of approximately 36 square miles in southern Boone County and a small quadrant of northwest Polk County. The members of the Madrid

Fire Department are highly motivated and truly dedicated to providing the highest level of service possible to meet the needs of the area. The City of Madrid has been experiencing explosive growth since the High Trestle Trail became a reality. Additionally, Madrid is strategically located close to many recreational opportunities in the form of lakes, campgrounds, bike trails, and snowmobile trails. People travel to Madrid to take in the beauty of the High Trestle Trail from all around the state, nation, and even the world, every year to experience all the area has to offer.

MFD was lucky enough to get some medical training with the SIM-IA truck in August. The truck is a mobile education program that brings advanced, hands-on emergency training directly to first responders, emergency medical services (EMS), and hospital staff across Iowa. It is administered by the University of Iowa College of Nursing. The program uses a specially outfitted semi-sized truck that functions as rolling emergency room / ambulance and has multiple different emergent scenarios to help keep us trained for anything. Congratulations to our three newest certified EMTs
From left to right Ellie, Kristy, and Walker.
These three have been working their tails off going through weeks and weeks of schooling and training to get to this position and thats a BIG commitment for an unpaid department of volunteers. The sacrifice comes in all kinds of different ways and not just on scene during an emergency. If you see them out and about make sure to congratulate them on this achievement!
