Kentucky, are you ready to ShakeOut?

On October 15, Kentuckians will join millions of people around the world for the 2026 Great Central U.S. ShakeOut. It’s an opportunity for families, schools, businesses, government agencies, healthcare facilities, faith-based organizations and others to practice what to do when the ground starts shaking: Drop, Cover and Hold On.

But preparedness shouldn’t end when the drill does.

Use the ShakeOut as an opportunity to ask:
• Does my family have an emergency plan?
• Do we have emergency supplies?
• Do we know how we’ll receive emergency alerts?
• Have we considered everyone who may need additional assistance?

Very hot and humid conditions will continue through Saturday with afternoon heat index values of 105-110 each day. Triple digit heat index values may linger into Sunday over southwestern portions of the Quad State.

Heat can be very taxing on the body and can lead to heat illness or make existing health conditions worse. Everyone can be vulnerable to heat, but some more so than others. Check in with friends, family, and neighbors, especially if they don't have access to effective air conditioning.

A dangerous heatwave is expected all week, with daily heat index values of 100-106 degrees beginning today. Major heat impacts are likely during the latter half of the week due to the long duration.

A Heat Advisory is in effect today through Friday for the entire Quad State area, due to a prolong heatwave. Temperatures will be in the upper 90s to around 100 with heat index values approaching 105 degrees!

Another heat wave is on track to begin today, with daily heat index values of 100+ degrees beginning Monday. Major heat impacts are likely during the latter half of the week due to the long duration.
