Prostate cancer is the most common non-skin cancer diagnosed in men, and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men, after lung cancer.

Prostate cancer often has no early symptoms. Advanced prostate cancer can cause men to urinate more often or have a weaker flow of urine, but these symptoms can also be caused by benign prostate conditions.

Because of effective screening options for prostate cancer, the disease is often caught before it spreads, and as a whole, survival rates are good for this type of cancer.

Prostate cancer is more common in older men. It is more likely to occur in men with a family history of prostate cancer and in men of African-American descent. Other risk factors include smoking, being overweight, and not getting enough exercise.

Talk to your doctor today about which screening option is best for you.

Real patients, real experiences. Thank you for trusting us with your care!

• We really felt like the labor and delivery staff and NICU staff were so helpful and wonderful throughout our stay. They listened and helped in any way they could. Dr. Crowell has been phenomenal throughout my entire pregnancy and through post-partum. She truly loves and cares about her patients and her job. She has been so wonderful to have as a doctor and has given me two beautiful children. Dr. Crowell really listens to all of my concerns and questions we had throughout the pregnancy and delivery. Please recognize Ginny in NICU, Lacy, Missy in mother/baby, and Dr. Crowell and Lesley.
• I was a patient on 3E. Could not have asked for better care from all hospital employees. From staff in ER to Admin to 3E, I was treated with courtesy and professionalism. I especially respected Dr. Higgins who gave me the dignity that all patients deserve. PT, Lab, radiology were all so courteous and kind.
• I was seen in the ER dept, and I would like to acknowledge Brittany B and the ladies working with her. They were excellent! I appreciate the care they gave me in my hour of uncertainty. Also, I would like to extend my greatest appreciation to Nurse Rinda, Nurse Meg, Nurse Martha, and Nurse Kaylee in CCU for their excellent care for me and my wife! Thank you for your outstanding care for your patients, it shows in your kindness, skills, and explaining all the meds and procedures I had while in hospital. Dr. Ruthvick, John and team, (so sorry I don't remember everyone's name involved) were excellent too! A very caring team they are. I'm very thankful for my team of care takers while it was a very worrisome time for me. A great big applause and gratitude for the lady who brought my food and went over the menu with me! Please extend this to her in food services, she is awesome! Thank you also for anyone who reached out to me and my wife regarding programs available to me. The ambulance EMT’s were absolutely awesome too, I appreciate them keeping me calm during the ride to the hospital! Please recognize Nurse Brittany B in ER, Nurse Rinda in CCU, Nurse Meg in CCU, Nurse Martha in CCU, Nurse Kaylee in CCU, Dr. RUTHVICK and team, John in Heart Cath, and EMTs with ambulance services. These people are outstanding in their jobs! Excellent care from all of them! Please acknowledge their service, they are greatly appreciated.
• I could not have asked for more courteous and professional treatment - start to finish. The office staff was diligent in getting me an appointment much sooner than I expected. The nurse was thorough and careful in unbandaging and cleaning the wound. Chelsea Adams was positive, friendly, and thorough in her examination and treatment. She carefully explained everything I needed to know about taking care of the wound and gave me a great deal of peace of mind. I could not be happier with everything about this experience! As I mentioned, everyone I came in contact with went above and beyond to give me the best treatment possible!
• The care and concern I received as a patient went above and beyond. I've never met such a wonderful group of people. Every single staff person treated us like a friend when we were definitely all strangers. I truly felt everything happened for a reason on our road trip home and the fact we ended up at your facility was such a blessing. Thank you for everything you did for my husband and I. Please recognize the nurses. Nurse Christy and Nurse Faith and all the assorted others made us feel so much at home and kept us as comfortable as possible. They represented the best of everything. Explained all the procedures, treatments, etc. It was so nice to be kept informed.
• The doctor was very nice and polite. He sat and listened to what you had to say, and he recommend what he thought was right. And we would recommend him to anyone. Couldn't ask for a better physician than Dr. Riley. We appreciate knowing that he's there.
• I'd like to recognize Dr. Gibson and his entire office staff. Dr. Gibson is the first provider I've had who has consistently made me feel truly heard and taken seriously. He is compassionate, knowledgeable, and thorough, and his staff is always kind, welcoming, and efficient. I'm very grateful for the level of care they provide. I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Gibson and his entire office. Appointments are always easy to schedule, the staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and I have never waited more than five minutes to be seen after checking in. That level of efficiency alone is rare, but the quality of care is what truly sets this office apart. Dr. Gibson is incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, patient, and empathetic. He genuinely listens to my concerns and takes the time to address them rather than rushing through an appointment or making me feel dismissed. He explains diagnoses, testing, treatment plans, medications, and next steps in a way that is thorough and easy to understand. I always leave feeling informed about my care and comfortable with the plan moving forward. In 43 years, Dr. Gibson is the first healthcare provider I have had who has consistently made me feel like my concerns are truly heard and taken seriously. I have never felt brushed off, talked down to, or made to feel as though I was overreacting. If something concerns me, it concerns him enough to listen, ask questions, investigate when necessary, and make sure I understand what we are doing and why. That kind of trust in a physician is invaluable. It is very clear that Dr. Gibson cares about his patients as people, not just as another appointment on the schedule. I am incredibly grateful to have found a doctor and an office where I feel respected, heard, and genuinely cared for. I would recommend Dr. Gibson without hesitation to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate physician who truly listens to his patients.
• Dr. Burris was very attentive, very compassionate, and very knowledgeable. He answered all of our questions and is doing a great job, and we're thankful to have him. I would like to recognize the group of individuals who work at the desk in the residency department. They are always so, so kind and they really do set the pace for how things go in the office. They're the first people that we see when we come in, and they are always positive and smiling and they just seem to have a really good outlook when we come in, and it makes the appointments nice. So, I just wanted to make sure that someone is aware. They might not always get the acknowledgement that they deserve. So, thank you for the staff that you have.
• Ashley Utley is truly an exceptional P*P and one of the best healthcare providers I have ever had. She takes the time to genuinely listen to my concerns, explains things clearly, and always makes me feel heard and cared for. I never feel rushed or dismissed, and I know she truly has my best interest at heart. She is compassionate, thorough, knowledgeable, and goes above and beyond for her patients. I am incredibly grateful to have her as my P*P and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a provider who genuinely cares!
• Well, I thought your hospital was very good. It was excellent in every way that I could see. And especially your caregivers that came, the nurses and stuff that came in, you know, to take care of me. And all the doctors and the cleaning people and everybody was very kind. And if I ever got real bad sick, that's where I'd want to go. Thank you. I thought that the nurse Lauren on 3E that came in, she was very good and she was special. She was very special and she was very kind and very understanding and I do appreciate her a lot.

This week's Employee Spotlight is Kristin Gordon, Physical Therapist at Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation in Princeton, KY.

I have worked as a physical therapist for BHDM since 2015 when I graduated from PT school. I work at the Sports Medicine & Rehab location in Princeton, Ky. When I was younger, my mother went back to school to become a PTA (physical therapist assistant). Watching her career grow and her find joy in this profession is part of the reason why my path has led me to where I am today.

The Princeton community holds a very special place in my heart. I absolutely love my co-workers, and they have become great friends. The patients I work with are equally amazing. Getting to know them on a professional and personal level while seeing them grow and improve is one of the things I love most about my job. I enjoy being able to educate, engage, and empower my patients to be involved in their treatment/plan of care to create long lasting results. Working here is like a second home to me and that is what motivates me to come to work each day. Outside of work I enjoy camping, hiking, photography, and spending time with my family.

Thank you, Kristin for being part of our team!
