"The Justice of the Peace Court is a vital component of the St. Tammany civil and criminal justice systems. It is the Court of original jurisdiction for all eviction proceedings, as well as small claims civil jurisdiction. Justices of the Peace are also committing magistrates, often called upon to sign arrest warrants for law enforcement upon determination of probable cause. Therefore, experience counts. Wally Porter has that experience. He served in the Office of Justice of the Peace in St. Tammany, Ward 1, from 2002 to 2008, and plans to continue serving the people of St. Tammany Parish." - Scott McQuaig, Committee Chairman
