Congratulations, Addison! Check out this honor!

MONROE COUNTY STUDENT ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to Addison McConkey, senior golfer at Sequoyah High School, on being named this week’s Monroe County Student Athlete of the Week!

Addison’s impact goes far beyond her performance on the golf course. Her coaches and school leaders describe her as a proven leader, encourager, and dedicated student athlete who brings positivity wherever she goes.

On the course, Addison is the kind of teammate everyone wants beside them. She celebrates her teammates when they’re playing well and encourages them when they’re having a tough round. Even more impressive, that same encouragement extends to her opponents.

Off the course, Addison brings that same leadership and dedication to the classroom and her school. As one school leader put it, “She is all in on Sequoyah, and we want to be all in on her success as well.”

Addison is a great example of what this award is all about — character, leadership, academics, dedication, and being the kind of teammate who makes everyone around them better.

This week we had our final home match of the golf season. The Chiefs faced Loudon at MGC. We recognized seniors Addison McConkey, Caroline Britton, Josh Blume, & Colton Runyan. The girls came away with the win with a team score of 88 while the boys came up just a little short with a team score of 226 to 209

Our construction and STEM traveled to Frerichs Sawmill in Coker Creek this past week and wanted to share some of their experiences and photos! Richard Kirkland, construction teacher, had this say: “Our classes observed the process of making lumber, trim, cabin kits, and wood chips for various uses. The mill uses over 98% of the log with very minimal waste. Mr. Frerichs explained the operation and labor cost associated with owning/operating a small business.”
