Monroe Made- Monroe County Alternative School

In Monroe County Schools, there is one resource more powerful than any program, building, or initiative: our teachers.

We are especially proud that so many of our educators are truly Monroe Made. They once sat in the very classrooms they now lead, walking the same hallways and learning from the teachers who inspired them. They have chosen to return home and invest in our community in one of the most meaningful ways possible, by educating the next generation of Monroe County students.

At Monroe County Schools, we are proud of the incredible educators who dedicate themselves to this work. We wanted to take a few weeks to recognize teachers from each of our schools who graduated from Monroe County Schools.

To our teachers: thank you. Thank you for the long hours and the countless acts of care that often go unnoticed. Thank you for seeing the potential in every student and for working tirelessly to help them succeed. You are the heart of Monroe County Schools, and because of you, the Monroe Made legacy continues with every student.

DUI DRIVER HITS PATROL VEHICLE!

MAY 30TH 2026 : 8:00AM

Last night, just before 10:00 PM, Sergeant Travis Gunter supervisor of our Delta Night Shift was on routine patrol traveling southbound on US Highway 411 near Patterson Street when a vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way and pulled from the center median directly into the path of his patrol vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision.

Fortunately, Sergeant Gunter was not injured. Through quick thinking and defensive driving, he was able to make a last-second maneuver in combination with braking that we believe significantly reduced the severity of the crash and helped prevent what could have been a much more serious incident.

As is standard procedure, the Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the scene and conducted the crash investigation.

The other driver was identified as Lynn Martin (63) of Madisonville, who was also uninjured in the collision. During the investigation, the trooper discovered an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle and determined the driver to be under the influence. Lynn was placed under arrest by the Tennessee Highway Patrol for driving under the influence and was transported to the Monroe County Jail.

Chief Danny Russell - โ€œWe are extremely grateful that Sergeant Gunter was not injured and commend his quick actions. We also want to thank the Tennessee Highway Patrol for their prompt response and professional handling of the investigationโ€.

Please remember: impaired driving puts everyone on the roadway at risk. If you choose to drink, please make arrangements for a sober ride home.
