Happy 178th birthday, Wisconsin!

On May 29, 1848, Wisconsin officially became the 30th state in the Union. Today, we celebrate our shared history, from great cities like Milwaukee and Madison to every small town, farm, forest, lake, and neighborhood that makes this state great.

Wisconsin’s story has always been shaped by the people who call it home, and every day, we share the privilege of being part of its next chapter.

If we are serious about protecting children and supporting healthy pregnancies, we need to lead with care, not punishment. Pregnant women and new mothers deserve access to prenatal care, mental health care, substance use treatment, and stable support systems that help keep families together.

That is why in this session, I introduced the Birth Equity Act, which expands access to quality care for mothers and babies who are too often left behind by our health care system.

Thank you to The Cap Times for calling attention to Wisconsin’s harmful and outdated “cocaine mom” law. Repealing this law will help restore trust in healthcare and preserve the basic dignity every mother deserves when navigating pregnancy.

Editorial: An obsolete, punishing and deadly law for pregnant women and families remains on the books in Wisconsin. Lawmakers must repeal this.

Yesterday, I had the honor of joining Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity and the Milwaukee Brewers for a press conference celebrating the efforts to expand homeownership in Milwaukee.

Habitat has been on the front lines of the housing crisis, helping families buy a home, stay rooted in their community, and build wealth for the next generation. Their advocacy informed and helped pass 2025 Wisconsin Act 239, a bill I coauthored to create a workforce home loan program to help more families overcome the upfront costs of buying a home.

Progress only happens because community partners, builders, lenders, volunteers, and advocates refuse to let these issues be ignored. Thank you to Habitat, the Brewers Community Foundation, and everyone who continues to pull our state forward on housing.

Thank you to Spectrum News 1 Wisconsin and Jason Fechner TV for the opportunity to sit down and talk about my journey into politics and some of the biggest issues shaping our state right now.

At a time when so much of politics is seen through headlines and social media posts, I appreciate the chance to have an extended conversation about the complex issues facing Wisconsin, the work happening in Madison, and the communities I represent.

She also discussed how her childhood in the 6th Senate district impacts the measures she sponsors and champions now in Madison, along with her priorities moving forward in the state Legislature.

Thank you for inviting me! It's always great to come together with good people in service to the community.

Thank you to Sprinkler Fitters Local 183 for welcoming me and Senator Dora Drake to their apprentice training facility today.

It was great to see firsthand how the next generation of sprinkler fitters is being trained for the work that keeps our homes, schools, businesses, and public buildings safe.

I also appreciated the chance to discuss SB 641, SB 622, and SB 643, legislation we worked on this session to strengthen fire safety and support the workers who help keep our communities protected.

Thank you to Scott Kobb, Dan Olson, Downer Malecki, and everyone at Local 183 for the tour and conversation.

Today is A Day Without Child Care, a day meant to highlight what our families, workforce, and economy would look like without the people who care for our children every day.

Before serving in the Legislature, I owned and operated a 24/7 childcare center in Milwaukee. I know what it means to care for children with patience, skill, and love while also stretching every dollar, working long hours, and carrying the weight of families depending on you. Childcare providers do far more than watch children. They teach, comfort, feed, clean, plan, protect, and create safe spaces where children can grow and thrive. Too often, they do that work for wages that do not reflect the value they bring to our communities. Many providers are forced to sacrifice their own stability to keep care affordable for working families.

That is not sustainable. Wisconsin cannot say we value children, working parents, and strong communities while leaving childcare providers to shoulder this crisis alone. We need real, sustained investment in child care so families can find care, providers can stay open, and workers can earn the wages they deserve.
