Mother’s Day did not begin as a corporate holiday. Its history is tied to women organizing for public health, community care, and peace. Ann Maria Reeves Jarvis organized Mothers’ Work Clubs to address sickness and sanitation in working communities. Julia Ward Howe called for women across nations to oppose war. Anna Jarvis helped win national recognition for Mother’s Day in 1914, then fought against the businesses that turned it into a sales event.

A working class Mother’s Day means fighting for what mothers and families need: paid parental leave, free childcare, free healthcare, reproductive freedom, paid family care leave, pay for stay-at-home parents, and wages that allow a single parent to raise a family with one job.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE ✊🏾

The Common Council is trying to take power away from the people.

They are proposing changes to weaken the Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB) and the Office of the Independent Police Monitor (OIPM)—systems our communities fought for to hold police accountable.

Black and Southeast Asian communities have always been on the frontlines of state violence—policing, criminalization, surveillance, and incarceration. We know what happens when there is no accountability.

We refuse to go backwards.

Community control is not optional.
Accountability is not negotiable.
Our safety will never come from policing—it comes from us.

Join us for a Community Teach-In to break down what’s happening and how we organize to protect our power.

🗓 Tuesday, April 14
⏰ 6–8 PM
📍 2110 Luann Ln

Then show up with us on April 21 at the Common Council meeting to demand:
NO changes to the PCOB ordinance. Hands off our community power.

We don’t just learn—we act.
We don’t just show up—we build power.

See you there.

Show up on Tuesday, 4/21 in Madison!

WE NEED OUR PEOPLE IN THE ROOM ✊🏾

The Common Council is trying to weaken the Police Civilian Oversight Board (PCOB)—taking power away from the community and limiting accountability over police.

We fought for community oversight.
We are not going backwards.

Now is the time to show up and speak out.

🗓 Tuesday, April 21
⏰ 6 PM
📍 215 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Room 215

Register to oppose and speak against the proposed changes.

Black and Southeast Asian communities—and all communities impacted by policing—deserve real accountability, not watered-down systems.

Pack the room. Bring your people. Protect our power.
