The Shorewood Hills Police Department is proud to announce that our Administrative Assistant, Jan Hartwig, has been recognized as the recipient of the 2025 Non-Sworn Employee of the Year Award by the Dane County Chiefs of Police Association.

Today, Chief Weitzel and Lieutenant Dodsworth attended a luncheon hosted by the Dane County Chiefs Association, where Jan was formally presented with this well-deserved award.

Since joining SHPD in 2022, Jan has made an incredible impact on our department. Drawing from her years of experience in law enforcement administration, she modernized and digitized countless department systems, streamlined records management and parking permit processes, and consistently ensured our operations run smoothly and efficiently. Her attention to detail, professionalism, and positive attitude have made her an invaluable member of our team.

Administrative professionals are often the backbone of a police department, and Jan’s dedication, innovation, and commitment to public service have helped move SHPD forward in countless ways. Her work has left a lasting legacy not only within our department, but throughout the law enforcement community.

With Jan preparing for retirement later this year, this recognition is an especially meaningful tribute to a remarkable career dedicated to serving others.

Please join us in congratulating Jan Hartwig on this outstanding achievement and well-earned recognition!

🚨 Scam Alert – Stay Vigilant 🚨

The Shorewood Hills Police Department has recently seen an uptick in scam reports targeting our community.

Common scams we are seeing include:
• Phone calls claiming you must make immediate payment or a warrant will be issued for your arrest
• Messages stating you missed jury duty and must pay a fine to avoid legal consequences
• Text messages from unknown numbers claiming to be the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WI DOT), saying you have unpaid or unsettled traffic citations

These scams often create a sense of urgency and pressure you to act quickly. Remember:
❗ Law enforcement and government agencies will not demand immediate payment over the phone or via text
❗ Be cautious of unsolicited calls or messages requesting personal or financial information
❗ Do not click on suspicious links or provide payment without verifying legitimacy

If you receive a message or call that you believe may be a scam, please contact your local police department. We are here to help verify the situation and protect you from becoming a victim.

Stay alert and help spread the word to friends, family, and neighbors.

🐾 Community Reminder: Dogs on Private Property

The Shorewood Hills Police Department has been notified of complaints regarding dogs being walked on the property of the Blackhawk Country Club.

Please be advised that the Country Club is private property, and walking or entering the grounds without permission is not allowed. The Club is currently posting additional signage to remind the public of these restrictions.

We ask all residents to be mindful of property boundaries and to ensure pets are walked only in areas where access is permitted.

Thank you for helping us respect our community partners and maintain positive relationships throughout the Village.

💊 Thank You, Shorewood Hills! 💊

Our Drug Take Back Day was a success thanks to the support of our community!

Over the past few months, we’ve collected a total of 167.5 pounds of unused and expired medications—keeping them out of the wrong hands and helping protect our environment.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to stop by and safely dispose of their medications. Your efforts make a real difference in keeping our community safe.

Missed the event? You can still dispose of medications year-round using the drop box located in the Police Department lobby.

Together, we’re making Shorewood Hills a safer place. 💙

⏰ Reminder: Drug Take Back Day is Tomorrow! 💊

The Shorewood Hills Police Department will be hosting a Drug Take Back event tomorrow, Saturday, April 26th, at Village Hall (810 Shorewood Blvd) from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Take a few minutes to clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of any unused, unwanted, or expired medications. It’s a simple step that helps prevent misuse and protects our community and environment.

No appointment needed—just stop by!

We hope to see you there!
