“I came to Access to Independence for some assistance with finding a place to live. I was homeless at the time.”
When *Edward first came to Access to Independence, he wasn’t just looking for housing; he was looking for stability, guidance, and someone who wouldn’t give up on him.
Finding accessible, affordable housing is rarely quick or easy, especially for people living with disabilities. What followed were months of meetings, applications, phone calls, setbacks, and persistence.
But Edward didn’t have to face it alone.
Together, Edward and Tracy, one of our Independent Living Specialists, created a plan centered around his goals and needs. Tracy helped him search for housing opportunities, complete applications, connect with landlords, and keep moving forward even when the process felt overwhelming.
And after many long months, Edward finally received the news he had been hoping for: he was accepted for an apartment. For someone experiencing homelessness, that moment means more than a roof overhead. It means safety. Stability. Privacy. A place to wake up tomorrow knowing you belong there.
“I can’t thank Tracy enough,” Edward shared. “She was very supportive and just wants the best for you. She makes you feel like you’re dealing with a family member who cares.”
