Friends of Gallagher Election of the County Treasurer, a predominantly process-driven administrative role, promotes flexibility in balancing needs of the county and taxpayers.

Thank you everyone who has supported me in my 2012 election to the role of Dane County Treasurer, in my continued efforts to serve the taxpayers of Dane County as described below, and in my 2016 re-election campaign. My service as Dane County Treasurer would not be possible without you! As treasurer, I have personally connected property owners during and after working hours with resources ranging

from budget counselors to benefit specialists to veteran service officers for assistance that helps improve their standard of living, gets them caught up on property taxes, and prevents tax deeding of their property thereby allowing them to stay in their homes. With help of staff, I have worked with property owners to decrease property tax delinquencies 15%-20% per year over the past four years, recovered about $1M from the sale of tax-deeded lands, and returned $2.4M worth of property value back to a tax-paying status - all of which reduces the tax burden on other Dane County tax payers. I have collaborated with local municipalities and private property owners to preserve pristine conservancy green space, remediate and redevelop contaminated brownfields, and preserve local cultural values like the Sid Boyum artwork found on tax-deeded lands. From a policy side, I have worked for passage of both state and local legislation... recognition of Dane County Treasurer’s Office as the official Dane Arts Posters site, increased flexibility in county payment of certain tax specials, reduction in county publication costs of unclaimed funds via online posting, specification that tax-deeded lands be sold to the most advantageous bid, proactive implementation and support of county divestment from fossil fuels, and development of statewide brownfield remediation guidelines for delinquent lands.
