Where Leadership Meets Community Action!

Wisconsin State Representative Priscilla A. Prado of Assembly District 9 says, “UMOS, Inc. has long been a cornerstone of support for working families in Milwaukee and across Wisconsin, especially amongst the Hispanic communities. Through its commitment to education, workforce development, and family services, UMOS, Inc. has created opportunities that have strengthened generations in district 9. Their outstanding Head Start and early childhood education programs across the state prepare children for lifelong success while ensuring parents have the support and resources they need to thrive. I am grateful for UMOS, Inc.' continued leadership and dedication to uplifting communities throughout Wisconsin.”

Thank you Wisconsin State Representative Priscilla A. Prado for supporting Community Action!

Last week, I had the opportunity to explore some of the state’s great medical research programs at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW). Maternal and fetal health research is essential to improving patient outcomes and eliminating disparities in heath care. The work being done at MCW for maternal and fetal medicine is nationally renowned, and I am grateful for their dedication to mothers and families.

Thank you Medical College of Wisconsin for this wonderful, educational experience!

In the 2025-2026 legislative session, Democrats introduced 878 bills. Republican leadership only gave 28 of these a public hearing.

Meanwhile, Republicans introduced 1,385 bills, and 1,039 of these received a public hearing. Over 75% of their bills were heard in committee.

When Assembly Democrats were last in the majority, we gave nearly 40% of Republican-authored bills a hearing. Under Republican leadership, only 3.2% of Democrat-authored bills were heard.

Partisanship should not get in the way of good policy.

Last week, Governor Tony Evers and I visited the Mitchell Park Domes right here in district 9 to highlight National Tourism Week.

For Wisconsin, the Domes play an important role in tourism and community engagement, attracting more than 250,000 visitors annually, and offering unique opportunities to connect with horticulture and the natural world.

Thank you to the staff and faculty at the Domes for hosting us.

Happy Small Business Week!

Small businesses fuel our economy, create jobs, and foster meaningful connections within our communities. This week, I encourage you to support a small business in your neighborhood.

Here are some ways you can support small businesses:

1. Shop Local.
Prioritize spending at local shops, restaurants, & grocers.

2. Leave a positive review.
A positive review on sites like Yelp and Google help attract new customers.

3. Engage on social media.
Following, liking and commenting on brands’ posts helps boost visibility.

4. Spread the word.
Recommend small businesses to your friends and family through word-of-mouth.
