If Wisconsin were its own country, we’d rank 4th in the world for cheese production! Our cheese and dairy industry generates $52.8 billion annually, fueling our economy and communities. No matter how you slice it, that’s a lot of cheddar! (And mozzarella, gouda, and feta, too.) June 1 is National Pen Pal Day—and we’re excited to celebrate at the Wisconsin Department of Revenue! All year long, DOR employees connect with student pen pals from Leopold Elementary, our Madison Adopt A School, exchanging letters and building lasting friendships. Last month, pen pal pairs met face-to-face for the first time, sharing lunch, enjoying a presentation from Secretary Casey, and competing in trivia games.

Our Pen Pal program empowers students to strengthen their writing and penmanship skills, while DOR staff help raise funds for field trips and activities. Together, we’re making a difference—one letter at a time!

Attention Community Development Entities (CDEs)! If you hold a federal New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) agreement under Sec. 45D of the Internal Revenue Code, you can now leverage that status for similar state credits in Wisconsin.

The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is officially opening the application window to unlock vital capital for your community projects on June 8, 2026. Funding is limited, and applications are monitored daily. Once the caps are hit, the doors close, so you'll want to act quickly!

Submit your application electronically via My Tax Account (look under "Additional Services"). For more information, including a list of common questions, visit https://www.revenue.wi.gov/Pages/Businesses/ComDevCredit.aspx.
