The criminalization of pregnant people must be stopped. We need to use our criminal justice resources to prevent and punish actual crimes - not for harming women who need help in their pregnancy.

I've been an advocate for our reproductive freedoms and a staunch critic of all efforts to criminalize pregnancy and healthcare for my entire career. Women should not lose our rights when we become pregnant.

What moms need and deserve are the resources to raise our kids in a safe, healthy way and that starts with pregnancy. Let's work together to get moms the healthcare, mental health supports, and assistance they need to care for themselves and their family.

We must always remember and acknowledge the invaluable service of so many women and men that gave their lives for our freedoms. And in their honor, we fight for protections to our personal freedoms and rights.

I will always stand up for our veterans and fight for peace.

Baby bonds are an evidence-based, relatively low-cost way to reduce the persistent wealth gaps that permeate our society – a related but different problem than the wage gap, which can be somewhat alleviated by increasing the minimum wage, investments in workforce and higher education/training, and strengthening collective bargaining rights.

In conjunction with other policies, we can become a pro-family, pro-baby, pro-equity state. See what I wrote for the May issue of Baby Blogs on the Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy in the link below!

Last night, I voted against the budget-busting May 2026 Special Session Senate Bill 1, because of its fiscal irresponsibility and short-term political gimmicks that shortchange our ability to prioritize our kids in the future.

Wisconsinites are suffering from high property taxes and underfunded public schools as a direct result of 8 consecutive Republican state budgets, and we’re now being squeezed by the economic havoc caused by Trump’s reckless wars and bad policies.

For years, I have led the fight to increase special education funding to 90%, adjust per pupil funding to increase with inflation, and give general equalization aids to actually get resources in the classroom for educators. I’ve laid out specific plans to permanently fix these problems, but this proposal would have put those solutions further out of reach.

Today, Robin Vos and the governor have apparently agreed behind a curtain to spend the state’s projected surplus before it exists and almost guarantee Wisconsin is facing a fiscal deficit in January 2027. I've been very clear: the state surplus money belongs to our children, to be invested in their future - in restoring massive cuts to public education, public higher education, and to invest in early childhood education, so that every child has what they need to thrive.

This latest deal is the height of fiscal irresponsibility. It spends a projected ‘surplus’ before it’s in the bank, even though that projection was estimated before Trump’s attack on Iran that’s disrupted our economy and caused gas prices to skyrocket. It gives a little one time money to public schools while permanently cementing unfairness in our tax structure. Worst of all, it blows nearly a billion dollars to send out rebates, squandering the ability to make the long-overdue investments in our kids that they deserve. To top it off, this Republican plan would not provide meaningful property tax relief to those who need it most.

Robin Vos knows it’s a win-win for him – screw over working families and create a budgetary crisis that Democrats will have to fix next year. The surplus – if there will even be one – rightly belongs to our kids, not Vos and the departing leaders who want to destroy it on their way out the door.

Today is Provider Appreciation Day!

Child care providers are the workforce behind the workforce and teach our kids the necessary skills needed for early childhood education.

We need to support Wisconsin's child care system to take the burden off of working parents and recognize the profession as essential to our state's economy. I've been fighting for public investment into this important industry and will continue to advocate for child care providers. Enjoy this clip!

Abortion medication is still available and accessible by mail for those that need this safe and effective medical treatment - and it will continue to be, thanks to providers and activists. Mifepristone is routinely given to women who have spontaneous abortions, also known as miscarriages.

The ruling on Friday in federal court to restrict the medication would have detrimental effects on access to medical care across the nation. I'm happy that the decision has been temporarily blocked because people need to have access to care when they need it most - not politically motivated decisions that cost lives.

Abortion is health care and always will be. Politicians should not stand in the way of medically necessary care. If you need help, please go to AidAccess.org.
