All new firefighter/EMTs spend 42 months as an Apprentice. During this time, they build upon the knowledge and skills they acquired in Recruit Academy and develop an advanced understanding of all aspects of firefighting and EMS delivery.

Congratulations to our members who recently completed their apprenticeship! Their new black helmet shields replace the orange, signifying their advancement from “Apprentice” status.

Congratulations to Trammell Lynes, who is reclassified to the position of Firefighter/Paramedic, effective today! FF/PM Lynes is now assigned to Medic 6 on the 'A' shift and will be responding from Fire Station 6 on Fish Hatchery Road.

Congratulations to our newest firefighter/EMTs, who graduated the Recruit Academy last week! Recruit Class 63 completes their Hazmat Technician training this week, and next week they begin serving at a fire station near you!

Please join us in welcoming them to the department and in thanking our Recruit Academy instructors for a job well done!

Safety Saturday is almost here! Join us on June 13 from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Capitol Square. Stop by our booth to meet our staff, see our K-9 team in action, check out our squad cars, and learn how we protect the Capitol and state facilities across Wisconsin.

This year, we're also pleased to offer FREE gun locks to the public. Firearm safety starts with secure storage, and we want to make it easier for families in our community to keep their loved ones safe.

Safety Saturday is an annual event hosted by our partners at the City of Madison Fire Department that brings thousands of community members to Capitol Square and the Dane County Farmers' Market for hands-on education about injury prevention, safe decision-making, and everyday safety tools like seat belts, bike helmets, and smoke alarms.

Kevin Willmott II of knows firsthand the importance of having an AED on site. Now, if someone experiences sudden cardiac arrest inside his bar or in a neighboring business, there’s an AED nearby for anyone who needs it!

During CPR & AED Week, we encourage business owners to get an AED to keep on site. Make sure its location is registered in the PulsePoint app so others can find it in an emergency!
