đź”® What should transportation in the Greater Madison region look like in 2050?

We're starting work on the Regional Transportation Plan update—Pathways to 2050—and we'd love to hear what you think.

If you live or work in the Greater Madison area, please take our 10-minute survey and tell us what it's like to get around the region and what transportation improvements matter most to you.

Your feedback will directly shape the plan update and help guide future decisions about roads, public transit, walking and biking infrastructure, accessibility, and safety. It will also help inform how federal transportation funding is prioritized throughout the region.

This April, our RoundTrip program asked people who live and work in Dane County to swap solo car trips for biking, walking, riding the bus, and carpooling—with a goal of 10,000 sustainable trips 🚲🚌

And… we did it 🎉🙌 We hit our goal—and as of this morning, we’re already closing in on 11,000 trips logged!

MADISON, Wis. — Dane County residents and commuters logged more than 10,700 car-free and carpool trips during RoundTrip Greater Madison's third annual Spring Roll Challenge in April.

Another RoundTrip Spring Roll Challenge update!

At the end of Week 3, we’ve reached 421 participants and logged 7,705 bike, bus, walk, and carpool trips across Dane County this month—avoiding 16.04 tons of CO₂ emissions (about the same as taking 4 gas-powered cars off the road for a year)! 🚗❌

We’ve got one more week of prize drawings (plus grand prizes at the end 👀), so there’s still time to join. Let’s finish strong and hit our goal of 10,000 trips! 💪

Week 2 of the RoundTrip Spring Roll is in the books!

We’re nearing 400 participants (already making this our biggest challenge yet!) — and together, we've logged 5,539 bike, bus, walk, and carpool trips across Dane County this April. At this pace, we’re on track to reach our goal of 10,000 trips (fingers crossed for good weather the rest of the month 🤞).

If you haven't joined yet, you still can! You’ll be eligible for Week 3 & 4 prizes, plus the grand prize drawings at the end of April. 🎉 More details: https://bit.ly/SpringRoll2026

Big news—passenger rail could return to Madison as early as 2029! 🚆 Amtrak is planning to expand Hiawatha Service, strengthening connections to Milwaukee, Chicago, and eventually the Twin Cities, while bringing new energy and accessibility to the region.

Amtrak is hosting a webinar for the new Hiawatha West project on April 14 at 7 p.m. CT. https://wp.me/pbWVl-1Dw

This proposal will link the three most populous counties in the state with rail service for the first time since 1971.

Kudos to Madison and Watertown for their early support to get this project started.

(Thanks to Amtrak for the map!)

We’re 10 days into the RoundTrip Spring Roll Challenge, and the momentum is building—351 participants have already logged more than 3,200 biking, bus, carpooling, and walking trips across Dane County. 🚴🚌🚶

That adds up to 6.36 tons of CO₂ emissions avoided—the equivalent of burning 716 gallons of gasoline.

Let’s keep it going! Log your trips this weekend and help us reach our goal of 10,000 this Earth Month.

Not signed up yet? There’s still time to join (and be entered into the Week 2 prize drawings). Learn more and sign up → https://bit.ly/SpringRoll2026
