Before social media, drones, and 4K cameras, there was "South Dakota Rural Water: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow." Produced in 2005, this video captured the stories of the people who helped build and strengthen rural water systems across South Dakota.

Twenty years later, it's more than just a video – it's a time capsule. It reminds us how far we've come while honoring the leaders, operators, board members, and advocates whose dedication made safe, reliable drinking water possible for thousands of South Dakotans.

What does South Dakota Rural Water do?

Earlier this spring, South Dakota Rural Water was fortunate to be followed by the National Rural Water Association (NRWA) for a week as they captured the work our team does every day to support rural communities across South Dakota.

From operator training and technical assistance to emergency response, source water protection, and system support, our staff is dedicated to helping water and wastewater utilities provide safe, reliable service to the people they serve.

We're proud to share this video highlighting the impact of rural water and the importance of the work being done across our state. Thank you to NRWA for helping tell our story!
