Native Plant Feature! 🔥Prairie Smoke🌿💗

Prairie Smoke (Geum trifolium) is an early blooming native plant with reddish pink flowers. What are some facts about this plant?

🌤️ Prairie Smoke likes full to partial sunshine and does well in medium wet to dry soils
📏 It gets to be about 8 inches tall and is perennial
🐝As early-bloomers, they are valuable to bumble bee queens that have overwintered underground and need nectar in the spring. In fact, bumblebees are the primary pollinators of the flower.
🐜Some insects such as wasps, ants, and beetles decide to take the easy route and chew small holes on top of the flower to get nectar
🍂The foliage of the plant stays green after flowering and turns orange red in the fall.

This plant is a great native option to plant in your plant beds or perhaps it will be the 1st plant in your very own native prairie!

The City of Madison Parks Division launched Movies with Madison Parks in harmony with the City's Neighborhood Resource Teams (NRTs). Sina Davis, from the Allied Drive Neighborhood, provided the spark and served as the catalyst and key advocate of the program's development. In July 2019, just before her passing, the Movies in the Park program was named in her honor.
