The Atwood Tool Library

The Atwood Tool Library The Atwood Tool Library is a project of Zion Lutheran Church which promotes community sustainability

The Atwood Tool Library (ATL) is a not-for-profit, membership-based lending library that will circulate a collection of tools with the neighbors of Near East Madison. For some of our members, the ATL will be a way of accessing tools they can’t otherwise afford. For others, it will be a means of pooling resources they are only going to use once in a while. The ATL is a way to reduce consumption, t

o connect communities and to learn from one another. The types of tools we will lend out will be non-gas powered and pertain to home repair, bike repair, gardening and landscaping. Tools will be loaned out during open hours on a weekly schedule with the expectation that they will be returned a week later.

Hello all, I wish I had better news for the tool library but the location that agreed to continue with the ATL dropped the ball when they changed management which resulted in all of our tools either being sold or reallocate to their construction crews. All this was done without consulting me and without my permission. It was already too late for me to do anything about it when I found out. I am so sorry that I have let many of you down. I don't have the energy to start from zero again. I suggest encouraging the local libraries to develop tool libraries, I have had convos with them in the past and I know there is interest there. Accordingly, I will mark our tool library closed so others will know we are no longer a resource. Thanks for the 5 good years we had!

We did it everyone! Thanks to those that shall not be named until they make the announcement for coming and taking all the tools, that was no small feet. And thank you to those who came out today to clear out all the shelving. The Bodgery scored really big with all the wood. And thank you all for all the support these past 6 years, I has been an amazing experience getting to know you all. I can't wait to see how the tool library's new owners help it grow.

Alright everyone! I think the Bodgery can take our left overs and shelves but WE NEED HELP tomorrow morning disassembling the shelves and helping to load them up. Who can lend a hand or a truck?

Hello everyone! We are working on moving everything out of Zion and will likely have a large quantity of left over supplies like sand paper and such that our new location can not utilize. Would anyone be interested in all the random supplies? We need to be out tomorrow so this isn't for people who just want a few things. I need everything gone. Reply or message me if interested.

I am heading out for the day. I didn't get any returns this weekend. There will be other chances before August 1st to return them. Feel free to message me to set up a time.

Reminder that today and tomorrow from 9 to noon you can bring your tools back to the tool library.

Hello everyone,

Mark your calendar for July 17th and 18th from 9 am to 12 pm as the dates you can bring back any tools that you may have checked out prior to the pandemic. Thank you so much for keeping track of them all this time! Please wear masks if you come inside the church. Stay tuned for details about the Tool Library's next chapter.

We hit a snag in our relocation plans. Due to insurance reasons, the new place can't house power tools. I think it is important that our community still have access to renting power tools. So this means we are looking for a location in the area that could house a smaller tool selection that includes the power tools. And we need to figure this all out before August 1. If you have ideas or would like to house the tool library, please let me know.

Hello everyone! I bet you are wondering why the tool library hasn't been open this summer given things might be a little safer to do so. Well the big announcement is that the tool library will be moving before August. Details about where are still working themselves out, but if you might know of a place to house the tool library as a back up plan in case our 1st option falls through, please get in contact with me. It is likely we will be condensing our collection to the tools most commonly checked out when we move so I will be looking for help to move/unload tools when the time comes. Please know that any decisions about a new location will be made based on its ability to be a stable option that keep this community resource open long into the future.

Because of the current COVID-19 pandemic, the tool library will be closing until at least mid-April. We will be open for our regular hours Saturday, March 14th, in order to accept returns. We will not be lending out tools. If you are not able to return your tools during this time, please message the library to set up alternate arrangements.

We apologize for any disruption, and thank you for your patience.

01/17/2020

Due to the weather, we will be closed tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience. Late fees will be waived.

01/11/2020

The tool library will be opening at 10:15 today (Sat Jan 11th). Apologies for any inconvenience.
