We are members of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC), which is one of the world’s largest and oldest women’s volunteer service organizations. GFWC members support the arts, promote education, preserve natural resources, encourage healthy lifestyles, and stress civic involvement and work toward world peace and understanding. In December of 2000, seventeen Madison women, who were then me
mbers of the Heritage Junior Women’s Club of Huntsville, decided that a new club would greatly benefit the rapidly growing Madison area. Over the course of several months, numerous meetings were conducted to organize the club. As a result of those efforts, Providence Women’s Club of Madison was chartered at the Alabama Federation of Women’s Clubs annual convention in April of 2001. The past years have been very successful. We have conducted countless projects in various community areas. Several thousand dollars have been donated to various local charities. Through our annual fundraiser, we have donated over $13,000 to the Madison Fire Department, over $4,000 to the Madison Public Library, over $43,000 to the Liz Hurley Cancer Foundation, and $25,000 to the Madison YMCA. We currently are supporting the Troops through the organization "Sew Much Comfort" that provides adaptive clothing for the military. For information on Sew Much Comfort go to http://www.sewmuchcomfort.org/. We have established great relationships with the local government agencies, schools, and the people of Madison. We continue to strengthen the foundation of our club through meaningful service projects in the community. The ability of only one woman combined with the abilities of many more can be astounding! Membership is by Invitation of a current member. Our Club Flower is the Yellow Rose. Our Club Colors are Blue, Yellow, and Silver.
