There’s political humor, and then there’s whatever this is.

A business publicly joking about “marksmanship” and promising “free beer day” if a national leader is assassinated isn’t edgy. It’s not brave. It’s not resistance. It’s moral rot dressed up as merch.

We’ve reached a point where some people are so intoxicated by outrage clicks that they’ve forgotten the basics of being human. You don’t celebrate violence. You don’t wink at political murder. You don’t turn the possibility of someone dying into a marketing opportunity.

This isn’t about left or right. It’s about the bare minimum standard of decency we should expect from anyone who shares a community with the rest of us.

If your business model requires fantasizing about someone’s death to sell T‑shirts, the problem isn’t politics. It’s you.

We can disagree passionately in this country. But we don’t have to lose our humanity in the process.

MMSD Has Discovered a Bold New Concept — “Kids? What Kids?”

The Madison Metropolitan School District is closing all 52 schools on May 1st because 70% of staff plan to skip work for the “Day Without Immigrants” protest — and somehow we’re still expected to pretend everything they do is all “about the kids.” Since the district won’t spell out the real impact of their decision, we went ahead and made a FAQ document for them.

Q: Why is school closed on May 1st?
A: Because 70% of staff signed a permission slip for themselves.

Q: Will my child receive breakfast or lunch that day?
A: No, but we hear granola bars build character.

Q: Will this day be made up?
A: Absolutely not. We’ve decided learning is more of a suggestion.

Q: What am I supposed to do with my kids?
A: MMSD recommends exploring creative childcare options such as “calling in sick,” “begging a neighbor,” or “hoping your child is suddenly very responsible.”

Q: Why are extracurriculars still happening?
A: Because apparently the district believes that algebra is optional but JV soccer is sacred.

Q: Isn’t this hypocritical?
A: We prefer the term “values-flexible.”

Q: Does MMSD still claim everything is ‘about the kids’?
A: Only on days when the adults aren’t busy.

MADISON (WKOW) — The Madison Metropolitan School District will close for all students on Friday, May 1 due to unavailable staff for the 'May Day' national day of action.

When Politics Turns Personal, Humanity Must Step In

The killing of Christine Jones, a 61‑year‑old Cottage Grove woman shot on her way to work, has shaken Dane County. The details emerging from the criminal complaint make the tragedy even more painful: the suspect had accused Christine of being racist and was upset that she supported President Donald Trump.

Those details don’t justify anything — nothing ever justifies taking a life — but they do reveal something about the climate we’re all living in. When political identity becomes a reason to resent someone, when disagreement becomes dehumanization, the ground becomes fertile for something far darker.

That’s why the Republican Party of Dane County’s response focused not on politics, but on humanity. This tragedy is a reminder that violence doesn’t erupt in a vacuum. It grows in the cracks — in the places where we stop seeing each other as neighbors and start seeing each other as symbols of everything we fear or dislike.

Christine Jones deserved better.

Her family deserved better.

And Dane County deserves a culture where disagreement never becomes justification for violence.

If this moment pushes us to choose decency over contempt, humanity over hostility, then perhaps some good can grow from something unbearably painful.

Be better humans. Choose decency. Reject violence.

Dane County is changing — fast.

And as Dan O’Donnell lays out in his latest analysis, those changes are reshaping statewide elections in ways every conservative needs to understand.

Our county has added thousands of new residents in just a few years, with even more growth on the horizon. At the same time, turnout here has surged to levels that can swing statewide outcomes all by itself.

Meanwhile, turnout in traditional conservative areas across Wisconsin has softened. The math is shifting — and Dane County is now one of the most important places in the state for voter participation.

If we want a prosperous, fiscally sane future for Wisconsin, we can’t sit on the sidelines.

Not this year. Not in any year.

Every household matters. Every neighborhood matters. Every precinct matters.

Then do the one thing that changes everything: VOTE.
