The Sing Sing screening and discussion event demonstrated the kind of shared action that can create individual and community-wide system change. Susan Kiernan, co-chair of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish’s Social Justice Committee, and Rebecca Barber, Nehemiah Director of Reentry Housing & Advocacy, spoke at the event about how sharing our organizational goals of education, valuing every person’s worth, and taking action for social justice – we have all been enriched through this relationship.

Recently, our new Emerging Black Excellence program, Sister Soul Sessions, had a great pilot session! Kaye Hawkins led the group in an initial session to explore the needs and challenges of the woman involved. The group highlighted topics such as self-care, supporting other women, and other things the participants wanted to get out of a group like this. Regular sessions are coming soon!
