The leadership of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin invites you to join us at this year’s PFFW Charitable Foundation Fire-Up Fundraiser & Charity Ball. This event brings together members, families, and supporters from across the state to make a meaningful impact on causes that matter to the fire service. Proceeds support burn survivor programs, fire prevention initiatives, and critical mental wellness resources for firefighters and their families. We encourage you to attend, bring guests, and be part of an evening that strengthens our mission and supports those who dedicate their lives to protecting others.

During National Telecommunicators Week, the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin proudly recognize dispatchers and communications support staff as the first link in the chain of survival. Every emergency response begins with them. In moments of chaos and uncertainty, it is their calm voice that gathers critical information, deploys the right resources, and sets the entire emergency response system in motion across communities throughout Wisconsin.

Before firefighters and paramedics arrive, Telecommunications Professionals are already saving lives. Through EMS pre-arrival instructions, they guide callers through CPR during cardiac arrest, controlling uncontrolled bleeding, assisting with the delivery of a baby, and other lifesaving actions that stabilize patients until responders reach the scene. Their work is often unseen, but its impact is undeniable. On behalf of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, we thank all telecommunicators and communications professionals for their unwavering professionalism, skill, and dedication to protecting our communities. 🚒📞

As violence against first responders rises, Assembly Bill 905, now 2025 Wisconsin Act 197, ensures Wisconsin’s laws protecting health care workers from threats of violence are applied uniformly to include EMS professionals.

Paramedics and EMTs routinely encounter volatile, combative, or highly stressful situations while trying to provide care. Unfortunately, threats and violence against EMS personnel are becoming more common across the country. Ensuring that Wisconsin law clearly protects these professionals helps reinforce that threatening those who show up to help in someone’s worst moment will not be tolerated.

Thank you to the bipartisan group of legislators who worked to strengthen protections for Wisconsin’s EMS providers. 🚑🚒

Thank you to Governor Tony Evers and the bipartisan group of legislators who supported another PFFW-backed safety bill, including lead authors Senator Cory Tomczyk and Representative Joel Kitchens. Lithium batteries power the devices we all rely on every day; phones, laptops, tools, and more, but when they’re damaged or tossed in the trash, they can quickly reach temperatures over 1,000 degrees and ignite explosive, fast-moving fires. Those fires put sanitation workers, the public, and firefighters directly in harm’s way.

AB 713, now Wisconsin Act 170, takes a common-sense step by requiring battery manufacturers to help manage the safe collection and recycling of these batteries instead of then ending up in our landfills. Keeping lithium batteries out of the waste stream will help prevent dangerous fires, protect first responders, and improve recycling across Wisconsin. This is a smart, bipartisan public safety measure and we appreciate the leadership that made it happen. 🔥🚒

Today is a historic day for the Wisconsin First Responders. Governor Evers has officially signed AB 651 into law, a bill that we as professional firefighters have fought hard to support!

This isn't just a policy change—it’s about fairness and protection for every person who puts on the gear. For years, we’ve fought to ensure that the mental health of our first responders is taken as seriously as their physical health. Thanks to today’s signing our stand alone EMS departments are now covered as well.

We are proud to have stood alongside our fellow labor leaders to get this across the finish line. Whether you're career, part-time, or volunteer—if you rush toward the danger, Wisconsin now has your back.

Thank you to the bipartisan legislators and Governor Evers, who realized that mental health is a line-of-duty issue.

Yesterday, our firefighters spent their time off walking around neighborhoods, knocking on doors and talking with residents during our literature drop for the upcoming April 7th referendum.

Thank you to the members who showed up and put in the time to connect with our community, answer questions and explain why we have the need for 6 more firefighter/paramedics.

Please support your local public safety referendums.

Thank you to all those who came out ver the weekend to help get the word out in support Somers Public Safety Referendum!

Municipality’s cannot provide adequate service without these additional funds and no other options to increase revenue exist.

AB-905 is exactly what it sounds like, a technical fix, but an important one. Earlier this session, the legislature separated statutes dealing with threats of battery and actual battery. In doing so, the definitions of “health care facility” and “health care provider” were unintentionally left out of one of the chapters.

That might sound minor, but it created a real gap, especially for EMS providers who don’t always fit neatly into traditional healthcare definitions. AB-905 simply corrects that oversight and restores consistency with what the law was always intended to do.

The reality is, our EMS providers are on the front lines every day dealing with patients who may be combative, disoriented, or in crisis. Threats and assaults aren’t hypothetical, they happen. This bill makes sure those providers are properly covered and protected under the law, just like they should have been from the start.

This isn’t about creating something new, it’s about fixing what never should have been missed and making sure we have our EMS professionals’ backs. Thank you to Rep Tony Kurtz and Senate Howard Marklein for ensuring that this loop was closed.
