Come at 6:00 on June 1st before the meeting to discuss the following two topics:

1. We will review the "Top Ten" list Representative Sean Casten (D-IL) has created of the most wasteful things the Trump administration has funded. His list really only has nine items, so we will take nominations from the floor for the 10th example of wasteful spending and then will vote on the worst one.

2. How roads and highways are funded in Indiana. With the Governor's decision to waive all state taxes on gasoline for another 30 days, which will leave the state $150 million short in money for roads, it seems like a good time to review how we pay for our roads. This will also include the new "wheels tax" that has been passed in both Jefferson County and Madison. Madison residents get to pay both taxes!

Are you still thinking of running as a candidate? Here’s more information about the county commissioner provided by Cami Keltch-Precinct 2-1 chair and state delegate.

COUNTY COMMISIONER: UPPER DISTRICT (blue area on the map)

The Upper District includes the following townships and in parentheses are some of the towns associated with those townships Lancaster (Dupont), Milton (Brooksburg), Monroe, and Shelby (Canaan). The three-member Jefferson County Board of Commissioners serves as both the executive and legislative branches of County government. While they are required to reside within their specific geographic districts, the County Commissioners are elected at-large by Jefferson County voters.



The Commissioners meet twice monthly from 5pm-7pm on Thursdays.

Commissioners are also required to serve on other county boards, which allow them to have a lot of input opportunities on a variety of topics. Some of those boards/committees that currently include a commissioner are as follows; County Employee Insurance Committee, 911 Communications Administrative Board, Community Corrections Advisory Board/JRAC Roster, Health and Human Relations Commission, Plan Commission, and Tourism Board.

At least one of the three current commissioners holds a full-time job outside of his elected role. Jefferson County Commissioners received an annual salary of $29,792 in 2025.



What do commissioners do?
o Receive bids for projects and services
o Authorize all claims on County budgets
o Decision-making authority over planning and zoning within the County
o Issue bonds or approve lease-purchase agreements for the County
o Establish ordinances
o Control, maintain and supervise County property
o Oversee the operations of the County Highway Garage in regards to construction and maintenance of roads and bridges
o Develop economic development programs to attract and retain jobs in the County
o Grant vacation pay, sick leave, paid holidays and other similar benefits to County employees
o Receive bids and authorize contracts
o Exercise appointing powers including both the selection of members to fill positions on:
o Boards
o Committees
o and appoint certain department heads

Incumbent Information:
Ron Lee was first elected in 2018.
He lives in Canaan with his wife Deb. He is the pastor of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and his wife is a nurse.
He supported the campaign to re-elect Sheriff Ben Flint and has served on the Community Corrections Advisory Board/JRAC Roster with Sheriff Flint.
On April 18, 2026 a public post on he and his wife’s shared FB page stated,

1. A smoker talking about needing to eat healthy.

2. Someone on their cell phone making a post on social media talking about NO DATA CENTERS! In protest.

No plans on your rainy Saturday? Stop by the Democrat headquarter from 10-12 while they are having some training and talk to Ed about being a candidate. Here are some of the open positions and details about the opposition.

County Council- District 1 which Greg Sanders won the Republican primary (unopposed- Ray Denning did not run for reelection). He was the first person to speak at the 5/12 county council meeting during public comment and is in favor of the ERA. He was also the first person to speak during public comment on 5/20 at the BZA meeting in favor of a data center in JPG.

County Council District 2- Tammy Monroe beat current councilman Michael Turner in the Republican primary. She was in attendance at both council meetings on 5/12 and 5/19. I don’t know her stance on the data center and ERA designation.

County Council District 3- Andrew Forrester won the Republican primary (unopposed- Ray Black did not run for reelection). I do not know his stance on the data center or ERA designation.

County Council District 4- Chris Shelton won the Republican primary (unopposed- Dwayne Maya did not run for reelection). He has posted on social media in favor of the ERA designation and zoning approval for the data center.

County Commissioner Upper District- Ron Lee won unopposed.

We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support our community showed during this donation drive for the Safe Passage Shelter. Because of your generosity, we were able to drop off a truckload of donations for survivors and their families.

At a time when the shelter has been at capacity, these donations are more than just items. They are comfort, stability, and support for individuals and children navigating some of the hardest moments of their lives. Every contribution truly made a direct impact.

We sincerely thank each and every person, organization, and business that contributed through your generous donations. We truly appreciate your contributions and support that made this effort possible. We also want to thank everyone who helped spread the word about our donation drive and encouraged others in the community to support this effort.

A special thank you to the Jefferson County, Indiana Government for posting and sharing our flyers with the community, for helping us reach so many members of the community and making this drive such a success.

We are proud to support Safe Passage and the incredible work they do every day for survivors and their families. While our contribution may be small compared to the impact they make daily, we are grateful for the opportunity to help support their larger mission and the life-changing services they provide to our community.
