League of Women Voters of Wisconsin Educating and motivating citizens to participate in their government

The League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is a nonpartisan organization working to encourage active and informed participation in government. We bring people and communities together to learn about and discuss the challenging issues of our time, even if we do not agree.

Bad news: the system is rigged. Good news: we can fix that right now. Big money in government in elections means that corporations and wealthy special interests push policy agendas.

But we’re rewriting the rules so we can have a Wisconsin that works for us, the people. It starts with shining a light on dark money, so we can demand accountability from the people trying to sway OUR elections.

Election season is on its way again, with the partisan primary election coming up on August 11 and the fall general election taking place November 3. In addition to the high-profile race for governor, there will be a number of other statewide races on the ballot, as well as local races for seats in the State Legislature and the U.S. House of Representatives. Voting absentee is one way for voters with disabilities to confidently cast their ballot; however, there are a few important things absentee voters should keep in mind to ensure that their votes are counted.

If you plan to vote absentee this fall, it is crucial that you request your ballot as soon as possible. It can take up to two weeks for your ballot to reach you in the mail, and it can take another ten business days for it to arrive at its destination if you choose to mail it back. Your ballot must arrive at your clerk’s office or polling place by 8 p.m. on Election Day. If there are delays in the postal service and your ballot doesn’t arrive in time, your vote will not be county. Don’t wait any longer than necessary! Fill out your ballot and return it as soon as possible to ensure your vote is counted!

We wrote more about absentee voting in this week’s On Sight e-newsletter. You can read the full article on our website at https://wcblind.org/2026/06/planning-to-vote-absentee-this-fall-make-sure-your-ballot-will-be-counted/.

Our history has not been a straight line toward freedom, but a recurring struggle to close the gap between America’s founding promises and its practices.
