Last Tuesday night, I called my political opponent and personal friend, Representative Mike Ball, to congratulate him on his “handily”-won victory in that day’s Primary Election against me, and to pledge my support for him in the November 6th General Election. He in turn graciously promised to meet me for coffee.
I do want to thank all my campaign supporters over the last 4 months and all the Madison County voters who put their trust in me on June 5th. I had first put my trust in God that this was something I was called to do - regardless of outcome. I unashamedly told you I was a Christian, because you needed to know I approach all things temporal, including politics and policy, with an eternal Biblical worldview. Mike Ball has so agreed in his recent Biblically-based Yellowhammer article on maintaining humility among politicians. I also told you I was a Constitutionalist because we have those same Biblical principles “baked” into our founding documents. Mike Ball has agreed in his mailer to supporting the Trump agenda to restore the Republic to those original intents. Finally, I told you I was a career veteran still seeking to serve, defending the Constitution against all enemies. Mike Ball is also a veteran who has made those same oaths to uphold both the U.S. and Alabama Constitutions. Please support Mike Ball on November 6th.
Although the Primary contests are over for most of us, the upcoming July 15th Republican runoffs for State-wide offices still need our Christian, Constitutional, “still-serving” principles reflected at the polls. Then we need to support all our Republican candidates on Tuesday, November 6.

PUBLIC EDUCATION
Alabama Policy Institute and Yellowhammer News asked me, "Alabama is ranked number forty-seven on U.S. News and World Report’s list of Best States for Education . . . What reforms would you propose or support to improve public education and prepare Alabama’s children for school success and lifelong learning?"
My response, "Alabama citizens can and must educate our children not only in 21st Century skills but also in the knowledge of who we are as Americans, 'one Nation under God'. We cannot reform our Alabama schools while Washington D.C. education bureaucracy continues to dictate what happens in our Madison and Huntsville classrooms. First and foremost, have the Alabama State Board of Education submit our plan to the U.S. Department of Education to opt out of the Common Core System and return public school policy to parents, teachers and local school boards. Empower teachers to once again teach without the incessant and counterproductive Common Core testing. Allow parents to parent, making the best education choices for their own children." Do you agree?

On the campaign trail, I often refer to my Pentagon experience in the tough Air Staff budget process when I advocate for Alabama budget reform. However, I have not ever written or even talked much about my surviving the terrorist attack by American Flight 77 hijackers on the Pentagon on 9/11. First, it's not something I did to deserve much of anything. Second, I long carried a guilt for the fear that I felt that day at that terrorist attack - exactly what the enemy wanted. Finally, words fail me to express how this was the most significant emotional event of my life. I, my brothers and sisters in arms, my capitol, my country was being brutally attacked by those who hated everything for which the United States stands - all created equal with rights endowed by the Creator, not the government. Suffice it to say. I have never forgotten that day - or my oath to protect what they attacked. I have since internalized God's most frequent admonition in His Word, "Fear not". "I am with you always." "If I am with you, who can prevail against you." Today, I stand before the voters of Madison County and ask, "Whom shall we fear?" Let us boldly proclaim truth for those willing to listen.

Last year President Trump directed Education Secretary DeVoss to identify the path to roll back federal overreach in education. ‘‘The time has come to empower parents and teachers to make the decisions that help their students achieve success.’’ The President is correct. Washington D.C. should not be dictating what happens in Grissom High School, but thanks to the socialist, top-down system, they are doing exactly that. Unfortunately, like Obamacare, much of the federal government infringement is now codified into law by our Republican Congress in the Every Child Succeeds[sic, Succumbs] Act. If you want conservative policies, you must elect real conservatives who will put good policy over politics.

President Trump has signed an executive order that aims to reduce the federal government’s role in K-12 education.
