Another great article about JSS, this time from Wisconsin Examiner. They did a great job outlining the many challenges faced by refugees in Wisconsin today, including the loss of important documents that allows them to work and pay their bills, as well as stress and anxiety around changes to immigration law and deportations. With a budget shortfall due to loss of government funding and grant support, our staff has shrunk while the need from our clients has increased, but we remain steadfast in our commitment to the community and supporting the vulnerable in Dane County. Thanks to Zabi as always for doing an excellent job representing our agency and the work we do!

What a fantastic time celebrating Purim at JSS! We delivered gift bags, holiday wishes, and cards from JSS and UW Hillel. We also presented a Purim talk by Rabbi Renee Bauer at Lechayim and a musical performance by Yid Vicious at Capitol Lakes.

Thank you to all our JSS volunteers and staff who helped organize lists, and fill gift bags with hamantaschen, dried fruit and holiday cards. Your essential help in this year’s Purim programming made it possible to celebrate with our fellow community members.

February is : a time to honor the leadership, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans and Black immigrants whose voices, cultures, and work continue to shape and strengthen our communities.

At Jewish Social Services, we see this month as both reflection and responsibility. We celebrate the stories and impact of Black individuals across the diaspora and recommit ourselves to dignity, equity, and compassionate service.

We are dedicated to building welcoming, accessible spaces where every person, from every background, is valued and supported, today and every day.

Our retirement community Shabbat programming remains a cornerstone of our Spiritual Care Program. Twice monthly, we gather together to sing songs, light candles, say blessings, and frequently hear from special guest speakers. Music-making holds a central place at these gatherings, and we are so excited to collaborate with artist Kathy Mazur for our new JSS Shabbat Prayer Book.

Kathy’s artwork will help bring warmth, beauty, and sacred intention to our Shabbat gatherings, fostering connection, memories, and music among seniors and all community members who participate in our programming. Thank you to Kathy Mazur for collaborating with us on this project! For more about Kathy’s art see www.kathymazurart.com or follow her on Instagram at .
