Happy Pride Month!

This June, we proudly celebrate our LGBTQ+ students, staff, families and community members. At MMSD, we believe every student deserves to feel seen, supported and safe.

Pride Month is a time to honor the history and celebrate the diversity that strengthens our schools and our community.

To all who are out, coming out, or still on their journey — we stand with you. You belong here.

At Madison East High School senior Ben Dutcher found his rhythm — both in music and in the trades. 🎶⚡️

This fall, he'll begin a five-year electrician apprenticeship with IBEW Local 159, after discovering a passion for hands-on work through East’s career exploration opportunities.

Along the way, he’s also built leadership and collaboration skills through Cypher, East’s student music club, performed across the community and earned medals at SkillsUSA competitions.

People. Purpose. Pride. Building for the Future. 💙

Last night, we had the privilege of celebrating the people who make Madison Metropolitan School District stronger every day at our inaugural People, Purpose, Pride — Building for the Future Leadership Celebration.

As MMSD plans for the future of a growing city, we know that our greatest strength is our people — the educators, staff, community partners and advocates who help students thrive and create opportunities for generations to come.

Congratulations to our 2026 award recipients:
🏆 People Award – Sonia Spencer
🏆 Purpose Award – Kirsten Fruit
🏆 Pride Award – Nkauj Nou Vang-Vue
🏆 Legacy Award – Melinda Heinritz

We are grateful to all who were nominated and to every individual whose leadership, dedication and commitment help shape the future of our schools and community.

A special thank you to our sponsors — TruStage, IMEG, Henricksen and Madison Public Schools Foundation. Their investment in public education and belief in our students helped create an unforgettable celebration honoring the leaders who are shaping the future of Madison.
