Despite the end of two decades of war, a congressional committee just voted to increase the Pentagon's budget by $24 billion.

WOW! The Madison City Council voted UNANIMOUSLY to pass a crucial resolution supporting a union voice for UW Health nurses, and calling for a fair union election before the end of the year. Nurses send heartfelt thanks to Alders Lindsay Lemmer and Patrick Heck, lead sponsors; cosponsors Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and Alders Syed Abbas, Arvina Martin, Brian Benford, Michael E. Verveer, Grant Foster, Tag Evers, Yannette Figueroa Cole, Regina Vidaver, Juliana R. Bennett and Nasra Wehelie; and to all the other members of the council for their support. Big thanks also to South Central Federation of Labor President Kevin Gundlach for his powerful testimony.

At the online hearing, nurses gave moving testimony about how the pandemic has aggravated the systemic crisis at UW, and why they need a strong, independent union voice to ensure the highest patient care standards. This adds to the overwhelming support UW RNs have received from scores of elected officials recently, including Governor Evers, Lt. Governor Barnes, Attorney General Kaul, dozens of state legislators, and the Dane County Board of Supervisors.

“You all have a soft spot in my heart. My mom was a nurse and was in a union, and it was really important to her. This is an important matter to UW Health, and the UW area in general, where there's only a few people making the decisions that affect thousands of others. So I'm glad we're pushing this forward, and you all are important, thank you for your service."
-Alder Juliana R. Bennett, UW Student

If you’re a UW nurse, add your name to the hundreds of RNs calling for a union voice through a fair election, so we can advocate for ourselves, our families, our patients and our community: UnionVoiceAtUWHealth.org/sign-up

The cost of inaction is simply too high.

We can’t afford NOT to pass the Build Back Better Act.

Campaign Integrity The following seven legislative proposals comprise the 2021 Campaign Integrity package that promotes campaign accountability, transparency, and integrity.

Today, I was proud to stand with my legislative colleagues to introduce the Campaign Integrity Package, to restore accountability, integrity, and transparency in campaigns.

For too long, powerful special interest groups and the wealthy few have had a growing influence on elections across Wisconsin and nationwide. As the Fourth graders around Wisconsin are taught each year, our democracy is founded on the principle of "One person. One vote."

Yet, the power and influence of money in our political system continues to threaten that cornerstone of our democracy, and to hold it at the mercy of the wealthy and corporations. Unlimited contributions lead us down a path where the wealthy few have a seat at the table, and the everyday people in Wisconsin, don’t.

By introducing this package, Democrats are showing our commitment to the people of our state that we will fight hard for them, and return the power to them and not the highest bidder.

The $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill introduced by the U.S. Senate this week could mean sweeping investments for roads, bridges, internet and water infrastructure in Wisconsin. But, the legislation still faces hurdles among Senate and House lawmakers.

I was proud to announce the Building Economic Security Together (B.E.S.T.) Agenda with my Democratic colleagues.

At every stage in life, Wisconsinites deserve economic security and to know that their government works for them. Investing in Wisconsin’s children, workers, and retirees is the right thing to do and a necessary step towards restoring and retaining our state’s economic health, addressing income inequality, as well as strengthening our economy.

I am proud to lead a coalition of my Democratic colleagues in crafting a policy agenda that works to ensure all Wisconsinites can secure the solid economic foundation they deserve.

Listening to Republicans cry about masks is like listening to babies cry about wearing diapers.

The real question is: How many of them are enabling the problem by not getting vaccines?

At a CNN town hall, President Joe Biden said tax breaks and benefits for the wealthy don't "trickle down" to the rest of society.

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin's bill would create a "Medicaid look-alike" program for low-income residents of Wisconsin and other states that have not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
