As the school year comes to a close, Dane County Youth Justice & Prevention is gearing up its summer programing efforts that support youth success and diversion from the legal system—with programs primarily emphasizing restorative justice, employment readiness, and personal development. For instance, through our partnership with YWCA Madison, we’re able to offer summer restorative justice training for youth between the ages of 13 and 16. The restorative justice trainings focus on the foundation and spiritual elements of circle justice. Participants go over the definition of restorative justice, consensus building, consent, values, and more. Youth leave with a better understanding of circle-keeping practices and conflict resolution.

Passed in July 2025, the federal ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’ (OBBBA, also known as H.R. 1) directly impacts Wisconsinites’ access to health care coverage and food assistance. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) will host a series of webinars about the impact and implementation of H.R. 1’s federally required changes.

To kick off the H.R. 1 series, DHS is offering a webinar for community partners specifically about Medicaid and FoodShare eligibility changes for individuals with certain immigration statuses. This webinar will take place tomorrow, May 12, 2026, from 1 to 2 pm. During the webinar, DHS staff will share an overview of these changes, the implementation timeline, and planned messaging to Medicaid and FoodShare members.

The 2026 Youth Justice and Prevention Conference took place at American Family Insurance on April 23 and centered on the theme of “Strengthening Communities through Transformative Justice.” We were thrilled to have President & CEO of American Indian Development Associates Ada Pecos Melton serve as keynote speaker and kick off the event with her session that provided an overview of the past, present, and future of transformative justice and how we can honor it.

A wealth of knowledge was also brought to our event through various breakout sessions. Thank you to all who attended, and a special shoutout to the conference committee’s hard work that made this event a success!
