Despite getting back late from Madison last night, I helped place U.S. flags along Highway 141 and in the Village for the American Legion in Crivitz this morning. These flags, which will fly throughout the summer, are a bold reminder of the sacrifice made by the brave men and women who served in our armed forces. As Memorial Day approaches, may they continue to honor and preserve the memory of those who paid the ultimate price for our country.

Yesterday, Governor Evers signed our PFAS legislation into law—a major step forward in protecting Wisconsin’s water, land, and families.

I was proud to author this bill to address the growing threat of PFAS contamination across our state. For too long, communities have dealt with uncertainty about their drinking water and the long-term health impacts. That’s why it meant so much to be joined by constituents at the signing—people who have been directly impacted and who helped bring attention to this issue.

This law delivers real solutions: strengthening accountability, supporting cleanup efforts, and ensuring taxpayers aren’t left footing the bill for pollution they didn’t create.

Clean water isn’t a partisan issue—it’s a Wisconsin issue. I’m grateful to my colleagues, as well as the legislative and executive staff who worked together to get this done, and to the advocates and residents who shared their stories and pushed for action.

This is what we can accomplish when we stay focused on practical solutions and doing what’s right for the people we serve.

Yesterday, SB 798 was signed into law by Governor Evers. The bill I authored with Wisconsin State Senator Mary Felzkowski, makes the Assured Wetland Delineator program permanent. The program allows qualified professionals to identify and map wetlands for permitting without requiring a DNR site visit in every case, saving time and resources. Developed with stakeholder and DNR support, the bill sets clear certification standards, requires oversight and audits, authorizes investigations and corrective action, and allows revocation for serious violations.

For 4 years, we’ve been working on legislation to help communities impacted by PFAS. After months of working with constituents, environmental groups, industry, and the Evers administration, the Assembly passed a bill 93-0 that will make funding available for contaminated wells, protects innocent landowners from liability, and holds responsible parties accountable.

My staff was able to meet with constituents from a few different credit unions this week as part of The Wisconsin Credit Union League's State Government Affairs Conference. The constituents talked about what separates credit unions from traditional banks - their mission to serving their community members instead of shareholders. They also discussed important legislation affecting credit unions, including protections against fraud and financial elder abuse, reigning in predatory lending, and support for credit union in-school branches to fulfill the half credit of financial education.

I'd like to thank everyone for coming down and explaining issues that directly affect other community members and constituents from the 36th Assembly District. From Forward Financial: Dan Decker, Kellyjo DeCremer, Ralph Dumke, Scott Pancheri, Megan Scott, and Robert Whitens. From CoVantage: Laura Ferguson, Kyle Lewis, and Sean Van Handel. From N.E.W: Lisa Gilligan and Emily Pearson.

Earlier today, Senator Eric Wimberger and I testified before the Assembly Environment Committee on two bills we authored to address PFAS contamination and release the $125 Million that has been set aside for clean up.

The Marinette–Peshtigo area is considered one of the most contaminated regions in the country. For nearly a decade, my constituents have relied on bottled water just to meet their basic needs.

Stakeholders on both sides of the aisle brought forward concerns with the bipartisan bills, but that is the reality of divided government—and it is not an excuse for inaction.

The Peshtigo Middle School was able to make the long drive down for a tour of our state's capitol. I had the pleasure of meeting with them for a brief moment on Wednesday while I was in between committee hearings.

It’s been a busy week back at work at the Capitol! Between committee hearings and testifying on bills, there’s been no shortage of important conversations and long days. Grateful for the opportunity to dig into the issues, listen to stakeholders, and keep moving legislation forward on behalf of our community.

On Thursday, I was happy to attend an award ceremony for Laurie and Jon Rakowski of Pound, who were selected to receive one of the 2025 Governor's Outstanding Families Awards. To celebrate National Adoption Month, this award honors the contributions of outstanding relatives, like-kin, and non-relative foster, adoptive, and guardianship families throughout Wisconsin.

Laurie and John were recognized for their dedication to working collaboratively with birth families and preserving meaningful cultural connections. As caregivers to children from diverse backgrounds, they apply trauma-informed practices and establish healthy, supportive routines that help children feel safe and secure. Laurie and John place families at the center of their work, tirelessly ensuring that vital relationships are maintained and strengthened to support family unity.

🎉 Congratulations, Barbara Scherbarth! 🎉

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to present Barbara Scherbarth with the First Responder of the Year Award for Wisconsin’s 36th Assembly District! Nominated by community members, Barbara’s recognition reflects the deep respect and appreciation she has earned through her 23 years of service to the Pembine-Dunbar-Beecher Rescue Squad.

At 80 years old, she still volunteers over 40 hours a week, demonstrating extraordinary commitment and compassion.

Thank you, Barbara, for your selfless service to our community!

Earlier this week, the Governor signed AB 221 that I authored, which closes a loophole and protects Wisconsin’s ATV/UTV system.

It makes one simple clarification: out-of-state vehicles on Wisconsin ATV/UTV trails must meet Wisconsin’s definition of an ATV or UTV. If they do, they’re regulated like any other ATV/UTV. If they don’t, they can’t be used on public trails—no matter how they’re registered elsewhere.

Some out-of-state companies have been encouraging Wisconsinites to dodge our rules by registering recreational vehicles as commercial vehicles in other states. Courts have already rejected this tactic, but the law hasn’t been crystal clear. This bill closes that loophole.

This bill brings clarity, supports effective enforcement, and strengthens the funding and function of our trail system. It helps protect Wisconsin riders, uphold local control, and support our outdoor recreation economy.
