SHANE BOTTOMS SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR CHILD R**E

Shane Bottoms, 41, of Madison, Indiana was sentenced on May 8, 2026, in Jefferson Circuit Court by Judge D.J. Mote following his conviction on the lead charge of R**e, a Level Three (3) Felony.

In late 2025, Bottoms was incarcerated in the Jefferson County jail for a probation violation for an unrelated criminal matter, when a disclosure was made by the victim to a therapist regarding s*xual offenses committed by Bottoms prior to his incarceration.

The evidence and testimony gathered through the investigation, including a forensic interview conducted at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana, revealed that Bottoms repeatedly engaged in s*xual acts with the juvenile victim, who was residing in the same household as Bottoms. The investigation further established that Bottoms provided alcohol to the minor on multiple occasions, including prior to the charged assault.

“Shane Bottoms exploited a child and violated the trust and safety every young person deserves within their own home.” said Prosecutor David Sutter.

The investigation was led by Detective Ryan Harrison of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. During an interview conducted by Detective Harrison, Bottoms attempted to minimize the allegations and claimed the juvenile victim initiated the s*xual conduct toward him.

“The courage of the victim in coming forward, combined with the diligent investigative work conducted by Detective Harrison, allowed our office to secure accountability in this case” said Prosecutor Sutter.

Bottoms was sentenced by Judge D. J Mote to thirteen (13) years, with ten (10) of those years executed at the Department of Corrections. Bottoms was also determined to be a Serious Violent Felon and a S*xually Violent Predator requiring him to register as a S*x Offender for life.

During sentencing, Judge Mote addressed Bottoms saying “I hope that you understand the impact your actions have had on this child. It was a violation of trust. She will be struggling with this for the rest of her life and you should reflect on that during your time.”

Prosecutor Sutter thanked the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Detective Ryan Harrison, the City of Madison Police Department, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana, the Department of Child Services, and CASA of Jefferson County (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for their dedicated efforts in pursuing safety and justice for the victim, which led to this conviction.

STATE POLICE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO 29 DRUG RELATED ARRESTS

Jefferson County, Indiana (April 16, 2026) – A months-long investigation has led to 29 drug related arrests involving a distribution network of methamphetamine, co***ne, hydrocodone, and alprazolam pills. The Indiana State Police (ISP) led the Investigation, titled “Operation Clocked Out”.

“This operation reflects the culmination of extensive investigative work led by the Indiana State Police, strengthened through close coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, whose combined efforts work to hold offenders accountable and enhance public safety.” said Prosecutor David Sutter.

Sutter also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the City of Madison Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office during the ex*****on of the warrants. “Their assistance was instrumental to the success of this operation and reflects the strong interagency collaboration we rely on to protect our community,” Sutter said.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, recognize the signs, and take action to protect children.

Child abuse often goes unseen, but not unnoticed. Recognizing the signs and knowing how to report can save a child from continued harm. The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office encourages you to stay informed and speak up.

“Children are safer when adults are prepared to recognize warning signs and respond appropriately” Said Prosecutor David Sutter.

“It is critical that children can identify safe adults in their life. Whether that be a parent, teacher, or therapist, a trusted individual is someone they can confide in if they experience harm or made to feel uncomfortable. If their concerns are not addressed, they should be encouraged to continue reaching out until someone takes action.”

☎️ If you witness a child being abused or suspect abuse or neglect - report it to the
Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline (1-800-800-5556) or local enforcement.

The Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office joins with the community in recognizing April as S*xual Assault Awareness month.

S*xual assault can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background. It is often underreported and many survivors face barriers to coming forward, including fear, stigma, and lack of resources.

“S*xual Assault is a serious and often misunderstood crime that can have lifelong impacts on survivors,” said Prosecutor David Sutter.

“Raising awareness for s*xual assault is essential to helping our community better understand the realities of s*xual violence, importance of consent, and the challenges many survivors face in coming forward. Awareness leads to understanding and understanding strengthens our community.” said Prosecutor Sutter.

HARVE HENSLEY SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS IN PRISON FOLLOWING STALKING AND PERJURY CONVICTIONS

Jefferson County, Indiana – On February 9, 2026, Jefferson Superior Court Judge Blaine Goode sentenced Harve Hensley following his stalking and perjury convictions in a bench trial last month. Hensley was sentenced to total of six (6) years all executed at the Indiana Department of Corrections.

“I commend Judge Goode’s issuance of a fully executed sentence as it shows a thorough assessment of the impact of Hensley’s conduct and the facts of the case. It justly considers Hensley’s lack of remorse for disregarding his father’s wishes and the law in addition to refusing to acknowledge the real fear he caused for the victim” said Prosecutor David Sutter

“This sentence provides the victim and their family with much needed peace and security in the years ahead.”

The terror Hensley has brought upon the victim, stems from Hensley’s attempts to establish ownership of property in Deputy, Indiana, to which he has no claim to. Upon his father’s death, Harve was not named as a trustee or beneficiary and hence not allocated property from that trust agreement. The property was later legally sold to the victim in this case. Despite being told by numerous judges and the court of appeals that he has no legal authority or claim to the property; Hensley repeatedly harassed the victim and their family by making unlawful attempts to obtain ownership over the property.

During the sentencing hearing, the Court heard victim impact statements detailing the torment inflicted by Hensley. The victim shared during their statement “Harve’s relentless actions have cast a shadow over what should have been a peaceful sanctuary” adding “the only time we have had any peace is when Harve has been incarcerated”

In imposing the sentence, the Court found multiple aggravating factors, including that the harm suffered by the victim was significant and greater than necessary to prove the offense, that he has a history of criminal behavior, that the crimes were premeditated, that a lesser sentence would depreciate the seriousness of the offenses, and that the Hensley showed a lack of remorse. The Court found no mitigating circumstances.

“If you continue down this course of conduct, you will find yourself in criminal court again.” said Judge Blaine Goode.

Under Indiana law, repeat felony convictions can expose a defendant to substantial sentence enhancements in the future, if the habitual offender status is applicable. The habitual offender enhancement is a sentencing tool that allows the State to seek a significant additional term of incarceration, when a defendant has accumulated a minimum of three (3) prior unrelated felony convictions.

“Our commitment to protecting the people of Jefferson County and holding repeat offenders accountable hasn’t changed. Hensley’s continued pattern of felony convictions is deeply concerning and is moving him closer to meeting the criteria for the habitual offender enhancement. If that threshold is reached in the future, our office will carefully evaluate and pursue that enhancement as appropriate under Indiana law.” said Prosecutor Sutter

45-YEAR SENTENCE IMPOSED FOR CALCULATED CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION SCHEME

Jefferson County, Indiana — Tyler Perry, 36, of Madison, Indiana was sentenced on February 2, 2026, in the Jefferson County Circuit Court before the Honorable Judge DJ Mote following his conviction of multiple felony offenses involving child s*xual exploitation and the promotion of s*x trafficking of a minor. Perry was sentenced to a total of 45 years, with 35 of those years executed at the Indiana Department of Correction.

Perry was convicted on December 29th 2025, of two (2) counts of Promotion of Child S*xual Trafficking, Level 3 Felonies, one (1) count of Child Exploitation, a Level 5 felony, one (1) count of Child Solicitation, a Level 5 felony, one (1) count Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Bodily Injury, a Level 5 Felony, and one (1) count Identity Deception, a Level 6 Felony.

“This sentence reflects the seriousness of Perry’s actions, which were calculated, deliberately disguised to evade detection, and involved deception to abuse a child’s trust for his own reprehensible benefit,” said Prosecutor David Sutter.

The investigation, led by the City of Madison Police Department, established that Perry used electronic communication platforms under a false identity to coerce the minor victim into producing s*xually explicit images and videos for payment. The victim initially approached Perry regarding the concerning communications they had received from the accounts. Perry manipulated and forced the victim to continuously engage in the explicit requests. It was later discovered that the online accounts engaging with the victim had actually belonged to Perry, who had been posing as other factitious individuals.

Perry’s criminal activity was uncovered after a disclosure was made to the City of Madison Police Department, prompting an immediate response by MPD Detective Majors Ricky Harris and Kyle Cutshaw. Law enforcement, the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Indiana Department of Child Services worked closely with the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) to ensure a trauma-informed, child-centered approach throughout the investigation. This collaboration allowed investigators to gather critical evidence while minimizing further harm to the victim.

Numerous electronic devices were seized belonging to Perry, including cellular phones, computers, and digital storage devices. Forensic examinations of those devices revealed extensive evidence corroborating the victim’s disclosure, including s*xually explicit images of the minor, communications directing the production of those images, and digital efforts to preserve and conceal the material. Investigators additionally, positively identified the online accounts designed to facilitate and disguise the exploitation to have belonged to Perry.

“We teach children to be cautious online and to report any concerns to trusted adults. That is exactly what this child did. Tragically, the person they trusted turned out to be the predator” said Prosecutor David Sutter.

“This was an egregious betrayal of trust, but thanks to the victim’s persistence and courage to seek help, the diligence of the trusted adult who reported the abuse, and the dedicated efforts of law enforcement, we are grateful that Perry has been held accountable.”

Sincere gratitude is extended to the City of Madison Police Department, Detective Major Ricky Harris, Detective Major Kyle Cutshaw, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Indiana Department of Child Services, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Southeastern Indiana (CAC), Chief Deputy Prosecutor Mark Wynn, and the Dearborn County High Tech Crimes Unit for their coordinated efforts and tireless work throughout this investigation.
