The Beacon is a busy place. Nearly three hundred guests come through the doors every day, and underneath the energy is something worth noticing — the guests at The Beacon know each other. They greet each other across the room. Our staff knows their names.

Last week, Randy Plunkett of Remember With Randy spent an afternoon performing for residents at All Saints Neighborhood — oldies, country, gospel, and rock. Familiar music has a particular power for people living with Alzheimer's and other forms of memory loss. Words come back. Faces light up. An afternoon turns into something memorable. Thank you, Randy.

“I am so honored to have been able to learn from and contribute to the Day Center! It was an amazing experience…”

“I’m incredibly grateful for my time volunteering at the ADC. That experience played a huge role in shaping my interest in working with older adults…”

Thank you to all of our volunteers for sharing your time, compassion, and care with our community!

Memory Care participants at the Adult Day Center recently spent an afternoon at the craft table — cutting, pasting, and creating together. Group activities like this offer more than something to do. They offer conversation, focus, and the satisfaction of making something with your hands.

Every week, a volunteer visits a homebound neighbor. Sometimes there's a story to listen to. Sometimes there's simply the steady presence of someone who showed up — and who plans to keep showing up.

Something as simple as a bottle of cold water can be everything on a hot day.

During periods of extreme heat, The Beacon stays open, and our guests are here. Keeping them hydrated is one of the most concrete ways you
can help right now. We're currently in need of donations of bottled water, and there are two easy ways to help. Drop off donations at 615 E Washington Ave., Madison (rear entrance off E Main St.) between 8:00 AM and 4:45 PM, or order directly from our Amazon Wish List and have items shipped straight to us.

If you've been looking for a simple, tangible way to help your neighbors this summer, this is it.
