It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Mike Salley, a longtime volunteer, friend, and dedicated member of our AAC and our City community.

Mike was a strong person who always stood up for what he believed in. You always knew where Mike stood—and we will truly miss having his voice, his passion, and his unwavering backing.

We tried our best to determine Mike’s total volunteer hours over the years. At first, we figured over 6,000 hours but as we were preparing for today we found more and more ways he volunteered and are thinking it’s more than 7,500 hours of his time, with the AAC alone. Mike taught others how to use their computers, helped people with minor home repairs as well as their income taxes, served as Chair of our Advisory Board, volunteered for the lunch program, helped run both Prize Bingo and Thursday Bingo, helped out at fundraisers, and gave his time to countless other volunteer opportunities at the AAC, and through the City, including serving on the Environmental Citizen’s Committee. He was volunteer of the year for the AAC in 2019 and Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade in 2023.

Mike didn’t simply volunteer—he made a difference. He showed up, lent a hand, spoke his mind, and gave generously of his time and talents to the people and community he cared about.

He lived his life well and was deeply loved. His kindness, tenacity, generosity, and legacy will be remembered by his family, friends, the AAC, and the City he called home.

Thank you, Mike, for all you gave and for all the lives you touched along the way. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. ❤️

September is Senior Center Month, a time to recognize the incredible and important role senior centers play in strengthening communities, enriching lives, and creating accessible spaces where friendship, learning, and wellness flourish

The AAC is proudly celebrating 50 years of service, support, and community connection in Madison Heights, and we are celebrating all month long!

For half a century, our center has been a place where older adults can gather, grow, and Create Community, whether through fitness classes, arts and crafts, social events, community meals, or simply the comfort of good conversation.
