🚨💥 CRASH. RUN. CAUGHT. ARRESTED. 🚔

Things took an unexpected turn at the Jack in the Box!

Madera Police Officers were dispatched to the Jack in the Box located in the 900 block of N. Gateway Dr. regarding a motorist who crashed into the side of the building.

Rather than stick around and explain what happened, the driver decided to take off on foot. Thankfully, several observant citizens spotted the driver and provided valuable assistance to our officers. With their help, officers were able to locate and apprehend Benito Chipahua (23) after a brief foot chase.

No one was injured in the collision.

Benito was arrested for fleeing from the scene and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.

A big thank-you to the community members who stayed alert and provided assistance to our officers. Great teamwork between our officers and our community!

🚨 ANOTHER GHOST GUN OFF STREETS OF MADERA 🚨

Yesterday, Officer Rocha and FTO Gibbs made a traffic stop in the area of Vineyard Avenue and Washington Avenue. During the stop, two suspect attempted to flee the area on foot. Our officers quick reactions ultimately led to the recovery of a privately manufactured “ghost gun” and the arrest of 21-year-old Oscar Dominguez and 22-year-old Angel Lopez.

What is a “ghost gun”? A ghost gun is a privately made firearm that may lack the identifying serial number required under California law. These fi****ms can be difficult to trace, and possessing or transporting one in violation of California firearm laws can result in criminal charges.

We are very proud of the work our officers do day in and day out. This is what proactive policing looks like. Two suspects arrested, one illegally possessed firearm recovered and one less threat to our community.

Reducing crime and protecting our community. That’s the mission. That’s the standard. That’s Madera PD.

Madera Police Department Holding DUI Checkpoint on September 5, 2026

Madera, Calif. – On 09/05/2026, the Madera Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 7:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk. Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.

Madera PD reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

We’re excited to introduce Jack, the newest four-legged member of the Madera Police Department!

Jack is a one-year-old Belgian Malinois who made the long journey from the Netherlands to join our team. His new handler and partner is Officer Maciel, and they’re already off to a great start!

Next week, Officer Maciel and Jack will begin their multi-week K9 training program, where they’ll spend plenty of time learning, training, and, most importantly, building the strong partnership needed to serve our community.

They have a lot of work ahead of them, but we know they’re both excited and ready for the challenge. Once their training is complete, Officer Maciel and K9 Jack look forward to serving and protecting the City of Madera together.

The purchase of K9 Jack was made possible through funding provided by CCP. This support highlights the importance of strong partnerships between local law enforcement agencies, working together to achieve the same goal.

Please join us in giving K9 Jack a big Madera welcome and welcoming him to the Madera PD family!

During the early morning hours on Sunday, officers located a stolen vehicle in the area of Conrad Street and Pecan Avenue and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The driver, a 15-year-old male, refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit.

As the driver attempted to turn north onto S. Madera Avenue from Avenue 12, he lost control of the vehicle and struck an object near the roadway, disabling the vehicle.

The driver then ran from the vehicle and into a nearby vineyard, where officers located him a short time later. He was taken into custody and later booked on charges related to the incident.

Thankfully, nobody was injured.

We would like to thank the Madera County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol for their assistance.

Today, Officer Ruby was patrolling the business district on West Cleveland Avenue when he observed a vehicle leaving the Lowe’s parking lot at a high rate of speed. Officer Ruby conducted a traffic stop and discovered a large quantity of merchandise in packaging consistent with items sold by Lowe’s.

The driver, Manuel Patino, was arrested for theft after confirming he had stolen the merchandise from the business. The recovered merchandise, valued at more than $1,000, was returned to the owner.

The Madera Police Department is committed to working with our local businesses and community to prevent theft and hold those responsible accountable. Officers will continue to take proactive steps to reduce crime and protect our community
