🚧 Projects Around Madera!

From new sidewalks and street improvements to neighborhood beautification, City crews and contractors are continuing work on projects throughout Madera. Here’s a look at four projects currently underway or recently completed:

🚸Washington School Sidewalk Construction
Approved by the City Council in July, this is the second of two sidewalk projects receiving Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funding. The first funded sidewalk improvements along Schnoor Avenue.

The Washington School project will improve about 1,900 linear feet of sidewalk along Austin and Dellavalle Avenues between E. Lincoln and E. Cleveland Avenues. The project also includes 18 new or reconstructed driveway approaches and accessible curb ramps.

The project represents an investment of about $637,000 toward improving pedestrian access and connectivity in the area.

🛣️ Raymond Road Rehabilitation
Work on the Raymond Road Rehabilitation Project is nearly complete! This project is helping to restore and improve the roadway, providing a smoother driving surface for residents and motorists who travel the area.

🌳 Doubletree Median Beautification
The median along Doubletree Way is getting a refresh! Existing trees and turf were removed and are being replaced with drip irrigation and Chinese Pistache trees. The goal is to create a more attractive streetscape while conserving water and reducing long-term maintenance.

👷 Sidewalk Repair Team
Our in-house Sidewalk Repair Team continues making its way through neighborhoods across Madera. The team is currently completing repairs near Lake Street and Ashlan Way, following recently completed sidewalk improvements along Stadium Road.

The City of Madera joined our community at Courthouse Park today for Madera County’s annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony.

Together, we paused to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, service members, and countless individuals whose lives were forever changed by that day.

Twenty-five years later, September 11th continues to remind us of the strength of the American people, our ability to come together in the face of tragedy, and the importance of standing together as a community.

Thank you to Madera County for hosting this meaningful remembrance and to everyone who came together to honor those who lost their lives and those who answered the call to serve.

We will never forget.

It’s a great morning here at Madera City Hall as Congressman Adam Gray joined us for a special check presentation celebrating $2 million in federal funding for the City’s Avenue 13 Sewer Rehabilitation, Phase III project!

Congressman Gray met with City leaders and staff to highlight the federal funding dedicated to this critical infrastructure project. During his remarks, he emphasized that this investment provides a pathway for City staff to continue the important work already underway and move the project toward completion, while improving Madera's overall quality of life.

We are incredibly grateful to Congressman Gray for his advocacy, partnership, and commitment to bringing federal resources to the Central Valley.

The City of Madera is pleased to welcome Congressman Adam Gray to City Hall as part of his “Delivering for the Valley” Tour. This tour highlights more than $16 million in federal funding secured for community projects throughout California’s 13th Congressional District. During his stop in Madera, Congressman Gray will present the City with a $2 million check for the Avenue 13 Sewer Rehabilitation, Phase III project. This important initiative will rehabilitate the final section of the Avenue 13 sewer main, extending from the intersection of Avenue 13 and Granada Avenue to Highway 99. The federal investment will help the City to address critical infrastructure needs and improve the reliability and longevity of Madera’s wastewater system.

The funding was secured through Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding and is part of Congressman Gray’s broader effort to bring federal resources back to the Central Valley for water, wastewater, public safety, roadways, and other local priorities.

On September 2nd, City Council presented a proclamation recognizing National Upstanders Day and the important work of United Upstanders of Madera, a student-led movement empowering youth in our community to take a stand against bullying.

The movement promotes a culture of kindness, leadership, and unity, encouraging young people to use their voices to help foster a supportive environment where every student feels valued and included.

Representatives from United Upstanders of Madera were in attendance to accept the proclamation and share more about United Upstanders Day, taking place on Sunday, September 27th at 1:00 pm at the Pan American Community Center. The event will feature live entertainment, kindness projects, an art reveal, raffles, and more—all designed to turn the message of kindness and inclusion into meaningful action.

In recognition of these efforts and in support of National Bullying Prevention Month, City Council officially proclaimed September 26th, 2026, as National Upstanders Day.

We are proud to recognize United Upstanders and the young people who are choosing to lead by example, stand up for others, and help create a kinder, more welcoming Madera.

Caltrans has announced a scheduled closure in Madera next week for tree trimming operations.

On Tuesday, September 8, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., the southbound State Route 99 offramp to Cleveland Avenue will be closed.

Drivers should allow additional travel time, use caution in the area, and watch for maintenance crews and traffic controls. The closure may be extended if necessary due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.

R-37: Raymond Road Shoulder Paving Project Update 🚧

Crews are hard at work constructing new paved shoulders and rehabilitating existing pavement on Raymond Road, just north of Cleveland Avenue. This project is being carried out by Juarez Brothers General Engineering.

Once complete, these improvements will help reduce particulate emissions, enhance safety, and improve traffic flow for everyone traveling through the area.

The 2026 Citizens Academy kicks off September 15, a free nine-week program that puts you face-to-face with city leaders to learn about how decisions on public safety, parks, community development, and finance really get made. No tests, no public speaking, just dinner and honest conversation. Past graduates have gone on to sit on City Council and local boards and commissions. Space is limited, and the city aims to bring together participants from across all corners of Madera, so we welcome applicants from every neighborhood, background, and walk of life.

The City of Madera is investing approximately $2.5 million in improvements to the Madera Municipal Airport, including repairs to the runway and taxiway.

As work moves forward, the airport runway will experience intermittent closures over the next 30 days. Pilots, airport users, and others conducting business at the airport are encouraged to plan accordingly and check current operating conditions before arrival or departure.
