OPOTA-certified officers with less than 3 years of experience must complete the written test using the National Testing Network (NTN). Test scores, Department Application, and OPOTA Certificate must be submitted to NTN by 5:00 p.m. on September 4th, 2026.
OPOTA-certified officers with more than 3 years of experience are exempt from taking the written test. Lateral Candidates must email an application and OPOTA Certificate to the Madeira Police Department by 5:00 p.m. on September 4th,2026. Applications may be obtained at the Madeira Police Department, located at 7141 Miami Avenue, Madeira, Ohio, or downloaded from www.madeiracity.com. To qualify as a Lateral Candidate, you must be currently employed as a full-time Peace Officer as that term is defined in R.C 109.71(A) at a minimum of 35 hours/week and maintain a current Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA) Peace Officer Certification and have a minimum of three (3) years of experience employed as a road patrol officer for an Ohio municipal, state, county, or state university that utilizes a law enforcement agency, or any combination thereof, or an equivalent position as determined by the sole discretion of the Police Chief.
