Yesterday around 6:30 p.m., a shooting occurred in the Piney Woods area of Noxubee County. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this could have ended very differently.

Our investigators and deputies responded immediately and evidence was recovered. Our investigation has already developed leads and identified a couple of individuals suspected of being involved. We are continuing to work the case aggressively.

I couldn't sleep last night thinking about what could have happened if any person had been struck by that gunfire.

Let me be clear: if this investigation leads to you, you will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. That's not a threat, it's a promise.

⚠️ FLOOD SAFETY NOTICE ⚠️

This is Sheriff Tedrick Liddell of Noxubee County.

We are currently in a flood zone area, and many roads and low-lying areas throughout the county are already flooded with water. If your area has experienced flooding before, there is a strong possibility it is flooded now.

I am out along with my deputies monitoring roads and checking flooded areas across the county to help keep our community safe.

For everyone’s safety, we are asking residents to stay off the roads unless it is absolutely necessary. Please do not get out driving through flooded areas. Most of you already know the roads and locations near your homes that normally flood during heavy rain.

There is no reason to take unnecessary chances. Turn around, stay home, and stay safe.

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates as needed.

Now that school has officially let out for the summer, I want to encourage all parents and guardians to stay involved with your kids over these next few months. Keep them active, keep them engaged, and spend as much quality time with them as you can.

Whether it’s sports, church activities, family trips, summer jobs, or simply spending time together at home, those moments matter. Love on your children, guide them, and help them continue to grow into respectful and responsible young men and women.

Too much idle time can often lead to bad decisions, and we want to do everything we can as a community to help keep our young people out of trouble this summer.

Let’s work together to make this a safe, positive, and enjoyable summer for all of our students here in Noxubee County.
