Last Wednesday, August 26, Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency distributed 350 free NOAA weather radios to help residents have another reliable way to receive potentially life-saving alerts.

The giveaway wrapped up National Emergency Management Awareness Month, but preparedness is important year-round. Make sure you have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts, including MBCAlert, weather radios, cell phone alerts, and local media.

ESF 18: Business & Industry

We’re closing National Emergency Management Awareness Month by recognizing the important role businesses and industries play in every phase of emergency management.

ESF 18 connects Macon-Bibb’s business community with emergency officials to share information, address disruptions, coordinate resources, and support preparedness, response, and recovery. Many local businesses also operate critical infrastructure or provide services essential to the entire community.

The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority, Economic and Community Development Department, Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, Office of Small Business Affairs, Urban Development Authority, and other partners help strengthen the resilience of our local economy and our entire community.

Preparedness takes all of us.

ESF 17: Damage Assessment

Before a community can recover, it must understand the full extent of the damage.

ESF 17 coordinates the collection and reporting of damage information following an emergency. Macon-Bibb County Code Enforcement, the Bibb County Tax Assessors’ Office, the Tax Commissioner’s Office, and other partners help identify affected properties, map impacted areas, and document losses.

This information supports emergency declarations, guides recovery decisions, and can help Macon-Bibb qualify for state or federal assistance.

ESF 16: Debris Management

Fallen trees, damaged structures, and storm debris can block roads, delay emergency responders, and prevent residents from safely returning to their normal routines.

ESF 16 coordinates the safe removal, collection, and disposal of debris following severe weather and other disasters. Macon-Bibb County Parks and Beautification, Solid Waste, Public Works, and other partners work together to reopen roads, restore access, and support community recovery.

Their work helps Macon-Bibb safely move forward after the storm. 🌳🚜

Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency is giving away FREE weather radios to help more families receive critical emergency alerts when they need them most.

📍 Macon Mall (3661 Eisenhower Pkwy) | Wednesday, August 26 | 5PM - 8PM

Radios are available while supplies last, with a limit of one per Bibb County household. Anyone who received a radio at the February giveaway is not eligible for another.

ESF 15: Public Affairs

During an emergency, people need information that is accurate, timely, and easy to understand.

ESF 15 coordinates public information before, during, and after an emergency. The Macon-Bibb County Office of Communications works with EMA, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, and other ESFs to share preparedness information, emergency instructions, operational updates, and recovery resources directly with the public.

When conditions change quickly, clear communication helps people make informed decisions and stay safe. 📢
