The Macon - Bibb County Emergency Management Agency is responsible for the coordination of mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery efforts pertaining to major emergencies or disasters arising from natural or manmade causes. This is in accordance with State Statutes and Federal Laws. We provide a number of services important to community awareness and preparedness. Services include providin

g information to the public sector such as our citizens, businesses, industries, schools, hospitals, senior centers, disability centers and organizations to promote disaster planning. The agency has a full-time professional staff. EMA works with all the private and public schools to aid their emergency planning and exercising programs.

Severe Weather Update for Macon+Bibb County 🚨

According to the US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia, Tropical Storm Arthur is expected to bring impacts to Middle Georgia beginning Thursday morning and continuing through Friday night.

Thursday - Friday
• Macon-Bibb County is under a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather.
• Periods of heavy rain
• Strong Gusty winds (20+ mph), isolated stronger winds possible
• Strong to Severe Thunderstorms
• Slight threat for tornadoes
• Downed trees / powerlines
• Heavy rainfall (2-5 inches possible)
• Moderate risk for flash flooding (3 out of 4)

Saturday
• An additional weather system may bring more showers and thunderstorms to the area.
• Localized flooding and isolated severe weather remain possible.

Timing
• Impacts are expected to begin Thursday morning (6/18) and continue through Friday night (6/19), with additional rain and storm chances possible on Saturday (6/20).

Today, we would like to recognize and thank Sophie Rosen for her outstanding service and dedication to the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency.

Throughout her time with EMA, Sophie has made a lasting impact on our agency and community. From advancing community preparedness initiatives and coordinating planning exercises to expertly managing our social media platforms, her work has helped strengthen our ability to inform, educate, and serve the residents of Macon-Bibb County.

Her efforts in emergency communications have been especially invaluable—keeping our community informed on preparedness actions and providing timely updates during storm events and emergencies. Through her commitment and professionalism, countless residents have been better equipped to stay safe and prepared.

While Sophie will be greatly missed, we are grateful for the dedication, creativity, and passion she brought to EMA each day.

WOW - what an amazing day! 💥

This weekend’s Emergency Preparedness Fair at Theron Ussery Community Center was a huge success! We were thrilled to welcome so many community members who came out to learn how to stay safe and prepared before disaster strikes.

From free preparedness kits and safety tips to hands-on activities and resource connections, the fair was packed with energy, learning, and community spirit.

A HUGE thank you to our incredible community partners and volunteers - we truly couldn’t have done it without you. Your dedication helped make this event possible and meaningful.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of one of our beloved EMA volunteers, Mr. Clarence Hike.

For more than 40 years, Mr. Clarence faithfully served the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency and the citizens of Macon-Bibb County with dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. His willingness to serve, support our mission, and answer the call whenever needed made a lasting impact on our agency and our community.

Mr. Clarence was more than a volunteer—he was a valued member of our EMA family, a friend, and an example of selfless service. His contributions over the decades have helped strengthen our community and will not be forgotten.

We are incredibly grateful for his years of dedicated service and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.

Please join us in extending our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the Hike family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that his life touched so many and that his service made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless people.
