🌪️ Mississippi Safe Room Program – Protect What Matters Most!

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is offering Safe Room Rebate Grants to help homeowners build storm shelters or safe rooms that can protect your family during tornadoes and severe weather events.

✅ Who Can Apply: Mississippi residents who own their home.
✅ What It Covers: Partial reimbursement (up to 75%) for the construction or installation of a FEMA-approved safe room.
✅ Why It Matters: Safe rooms save lives. They provide reinforced protection when seconds count.

Seven MS counties are now under active burn bans: Adams, Carroll, Clay, Franklin, Montgomery, Noxubee, and Winston.

Anything with an open flame that produces an ember is prohibited during a burn ban.

We urge the public to exercise extreme caution when starting outdoor fires throughout MS, as even a small spark or ember can ignite a wildfire. To help reduce the risk, the following safety tips are recommended:

🚫 Verify if a burn ban is in effect in your county.
🍃 Don't Burn on windy days.
🔥 Never leave a fire unattended.
🆒 Ensure that coals are completely cool to the touch before leaving a site.
🌧️ Consider waiting until after a rainfall before initiating any outdoor burning.
