This Italian Villa Style house was built by William Rokebaugh "Rock" Rogers in the 1840’s. Originally the roof was crested by a "widows walk”, which was removed. It features wood columns which support a single story portico across the front of the house. The ground floor windows extend from the ceiling to the floor and are enclosed by shutters. The front door of the house is a beautiful hand carved wood door that Mr Rogers had crafted in Connecticut and shipped to Macon via Darian GA on a river steamer. Originally the roof was crested by a "widows walk”, which was removed, Rock Rogers was a prominent early citizen of Macon and he chose a high point of land in what was the most distinguished residential area of the city. "The interior of the house features high ceilings, elaborate cornice work, Victorian style mantles of black slate with Italian marbleizing by hand, wide heartwood pine floors and elegant chandeliers in all the main rooms.
