Attention all educators and craft gurus!!!

Fort Hawkins needs your input!

We are forging into uncharted territories, much like our forefathers did in the 1800s and we need your help.

We are creating field trips, workshops, and educational opportunities to help aid our community classrooms and we can't do it without you!!!

Have a love of history?
Want to learn more information on frontier Georgia?
Have a skill or talent for native lifeways and frontier crafts?

Our Education Committee would love to have you!

We want to open our doors to every child, and child at heart, so that they can have the most fulfilling experience we can provide.

Looking for something new to do, trying to find a way to connect to Macon history, or needing a new hobby to expand your resume? Fort Hawkins has your answer!!!

We are launching several new projects and opportunities to volunteer in your free time.

Oral history interviews, archival and artifact examinations, cataloging and research.

We welcome volunteers from 10 years of age and up!

Our junior docents (teens) learn public speaking and customer service skills while learning all about Middle Georgia history.

Looking for a fun and educational way to bring history to life? Join us at Fort Hawkins for our Homeschool Explorer Program, where learning goes beyond the textbook!

On the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month from Septmeber to April (except the 3rd Thursday in October), students will experience hands-on activities that explore Georgia's early history, archaeology, Native American culture, and frontier life.

Each program features rotating activities such as:

Frontier games
Archaeology investigations
Native American crafts
Historic skills and demonstrations
Nature and history exploration
And much more!

📅 1st & 3rd Thursdays of each month September- April (No 3rd Thursday in October)
🕚 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

We are excited to have several supporting organizations come out and celebrate History on the Hill for America's 250th Birthday at the birthplace of Macon.
Come explore local history organizations, the history of the American flag, and the customs surrounding the stars and stripes 🇺🇸🇺🇸

*depending on the state of the burn ban and our ability to light our fire pit, we may or may not be able to hold our flag retirement ceremony at 1pm.
