Over the spring and summer Macon R-1 staff members often participate in leadership roles, level up their learning, and find growth through new achievements. In this series, we will be highlighting a few of our staff members' spring and summer accolades.

Next up is Mrs. Heather Hutcherson, Macon Macon R-I Elementary Art teacher. This summer, Mrs. Hutcherson was elected as the District 2 Representative for the Missouri Art Education Association (MAEA).

Holding a leadership role in a teaching or subject-area organization allows our staff to showcase their leadership skills while also building a network of fellow educators and gaining new ideas and inspiration to bring back to the classroom.

Congratulations to Mrs. Hutcherson on this achievement! We know you will represent Macon R-I well!

"Hi everyone! My name is Kristen Clay, and I live in La Plata, Missouri. I previously lived on Scott AFB, where I worked as a Special Education Paraprofessional for 3 years before moving back closer to family here in Missouri. I’ve been married to my husband, Tyler, for 12 years, and we have three boys—Keegan (11), Lawrence (9), and Chayton (7)—who will be attending La Plata Elementary School. In my free time, I love spending time with my family, which usually means baseball, fishing, hunting, and enjoying the outdoors."

"My name is Heidi Swan. We recently moved to the Macon area this April. We previously lived in Macomb, Il where I worked as a paraprofessional in the junior high and high school behavioral program. I have been married to my husband Herschel for 33 years. We have one son. I love being outdoors in my free time and spending time with my family and our yellow lab. I am so excited to be part of the Macon Tiger team and look forward to my position in the SOAR program!"
