Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness. The McDonough County affiliate of Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together to build houses for local families in need. The McDonough County affiliate of Habitat was chartered in 1995, and serves the communi

ties of Blandinsville, Good Hope, Industry, Macomb, New Philadelphia, Prairie City, Sciota, Tennessee and Walnut Grove. The organization is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors, representing all walks of life and expertise. In addition, there are student chapters at Spoon River College and Western Illinois University. The process is really simple. Our local affiliate raises funds that are used to provide affordable housing in McDonough County. Partner Families are solicited, screened, and selected to receive no-interest loans. Then as homes become available, approved families are matched with new construction or rehabbed houses. Families provide “sweat equity” and receive ongoing education and nurturing in homeownership and financial accountability. Their monthly loan payments then go toward the building/rehabbing of future houses. And the CYCLE OF HOPE CONTINUES!
