Yesterday, we responded to a 911 emergency call for two missing kayakers in the waters between St. Ignace and Mackinac Island. The kayakers paddled out, grew tired, flipped over their kayaks, and could not get back in.

Luckily USCG Station St. Ignace from U.S. Coast Guard Sector Northern Great Lakes had deployed their small boat, which was first on the scene and were able to get the people and their equipment safely onboard.

As the weather continues to warm up, please review this Water Safety Announcement. We want you to enjoy the water while being smart and safe about it!

2 calls in less than 24 hours!
These are the first two runs to start our season. A lovely sunset even welcomed us back into Mackinac Island tonight. It's always great to be able to help our community!

In times of need, it definitely takes a community to come together!

Today we joined a multi-agency effort to help dig out the windows and doors of the school, in addition to shoveling snow to give local seniors access out of their homes.

A special thanks to Mackinac Island Fire Department and Jason St. Onge for coordinating the effort and for the delicious lunch that was provided.

When we say it takes a team, we truly mean it!

We couldn't do our mission of being a resource in the Straits of Mackinac area if it wasn't for our crew, both on land and on the water. A special thanks goes to Larry and Chad Belonga, who are always willing to assist us as our land based support.

Here's a little glimpse of our morning. We will see everyone back on Lake Huron in the spring!

As the weather turns cooler, you may see some of our crew in new Helly Hansen boating jackets. These were made possible by generous donors throughout the Mackinac Island community.
